Don’t worry California will make sure of that.

Baseball just doesn't seem that popular anymore...I'm sure it is if they are shelling out 300 mil.  I remember as a kid baseball and football getting equal promotion on TV...doesn't seem that way anymore.

I've tried to watch a few games here an there...it's just north of paint drying on the excitement scale.  Watching The cubbies winning the World Series was the exception.

Padres spending like Yankees.  I always viewed the Padres as AAA+. I hope it works out for them.

So sad to see Giancarlo Stanton’s 325 million dollar deal fall to this

Math is some hard shit.

That’s why it’s so high. If he played for the Rangers or the Rays or Marlins the contract would be lower. The agents factor in the tax.

Machado’s deal has a higher AAV since Stanton’s deal was for 13 years

Is Machado really that much of a crowd draw? I've never heard anyone talk about him like one of the greats.

But the AAV is lower than what Cabrera or Price previously signed.

So which is it?

My thoughts exactly. Some people don't realize they are commies.

Good for Manny. Get as much money as the market will allow you to get. I'd do the same.

He's very good but some don't like him because he's made a dirty play or two over the years. He's still relatively young while I wouldn't put him next to Mike Trout I would still consider him a top 10 player in the game currently.

You were probably just about the only one then. Cubs had only shown interest in Harper but it's been said many times this offseason that they just don't have the money to make a deal that big.

Obviously you aren’t a baseball fan. You’d have to pay attention to know that A-Rod received not (1), but (2) $250million contracts during his career (or atleast very yuuuge). The Rangers did it first and he rewarded them with no major accomplishments. The Yankees would have to be the second team to do it...

He's had a good career so far considering he is just now hitting his prime. He got paid for what the Padres expect him to do, not for what he has done in the past.

Might work out, might not. We will see.

Never thought this Machado kid was even that good, relatively speaking. Boggles the mind that he was offered this much by the perennial contenders in San Diego ...

...good for him though

Jeez, in the NFL you can't pronounce half of the first names, in MLB the last names unless you know either ebonics or spanish.

I'd just soon watch Japanese baseball for the trifecta.

LOL.....My Dad was a huge Baltimore Orioles  fan and you should have heard how he butchered the Spanish names when they broke into the league big time, he got so he would just say "that Spanish guy on shortstop was really moving last night".
