Looking for something with an extremely cushy ride, low noise levels, and comfortable chairs. Doesn't have to be a head turner or have BMW like performance. No need for tech or infotainment. Can be domestic or imported.

Think: "Floating along on the interstate at 80mph"

I've never been a GM fan but my first choice on the list would be the Cadillac DTS. This is the car I tend to visualize when I think of a luxury cruiser. But I've heard the Northstar V8 is not that great of an engine and all the ones I can buy now are going to be pushing 75k+ miles.

I know the Toyota Avalon or the Lexus LS/GS models also fit the bill, but these will still have a price premium for being Toyota built.

Any others to consider?

Tbh, it being toyota built is the very reason you need to go for those. Likelyhood of having an expensive repair on literally any other make/model is much higher.

As far as the tech/infotainment, you are asking for the "halo" luxury cars for a manufacturer. They come standard with tech. I drive a 2012 CTS-V and the only options you could ask for was Recaro seats and/or a sunroof. It came with everything else.

I thought about a used LS long and hard. Basically a 7 Series BMW that is reliable.

Im looking at a barely used , less than 10k miles ,2015 IS350 sport AWD and its a nice vehicle. Iv'e been driving trucks for years and it is so nice of a driver compared to my 4runner its crazy.

Im still sitting on the fence as the place wont budge on price. I have also looked at the Acura TLX and while a nice vehicle , the Lexus is way better in quality feel.

I have a 2006 Cadillac STS V8. The N* in those cars is not like the transverse POS that's in the DTS, it makes more power and has better longevity and reliability.

It's not quite like driving a couch, but that's probably because I leave the magnetic ride control in Sport all the time. It's been a good car, I'm happy with it.

Lexus GS 350 starting with 2013 year model.

Skip the F sport and find one with the luxury package.

Ride is very good although not quite LS level,  awesome seats (the passenger and driver seats both have all the same adjustments), decent performance and Toyota reliability.

Edit: I know you are concerned about the cost of the GS over the alternatives.  Drive one anyway and you may decide the price premium is worth it.

I suppose I should have pointed out that reliability is not a major concern. This is a secondary vehicle that I would use for long highway trips, since my primary vehicle (Toyota Truck) is terrible at high speed comfort.

That said, I will consider the Equus and GS or LS options if they can be had for a decent price. I just figured Cadillacs were going to be undervalued and it would be a lot easier to find one that was driven by the widow on Sundays to church.

Then again maybe I'm just trying to live out a scene from one of my favorite shows...

One of those or a Crown Vic / Marq / Town car, anything built past those will be a big pile of shit with tons of stupid electronics on it that will cost way to much to keep up.

Look at the Avalon. They seem to be the bargain in luxury cars. A neighbor has one it seems nice and reliable.

Friend picked up a used Equus last year and that thing is really nice.  Rides nice, has loads of HP, super comfortable interior, he's had no issues so far.

You'll be hard pressed to beat a Lexus.
Buddy has one and it's a great ride. Every luxury you could want.
I'm an Audi guy myself, but they are expensive to work on, require premium gas and insurance can be a bear on them. That said, if you want to run at insane speeds on the interstate and still feel like you are doing 55, an A6 is what you seek. Avoid the 2.0 turbo...it doesn't play nice with the slush box and heavy car...
I've personally had our Audi (2.5 5cyl) up to 240km/h for extended periods of time...the desert is very flat.
