Holy shit!!!
I looked at used truck prices online.
Whoaaaaa.

I found 2020 trucks for more than they were new.

I’m not looking for anything fancy.
Ram 1500 crew cab 4x4 low trim (tradesman, express, etc) power windows/ locks would be nice.
I want under 100k miles.

Not finding much under 19k.  I found a few that fit the bill, but most were insanely high.

Anyone got any advice?
Or will waiting for Biden to kill the economy help?

I’ve been looking intently for a few months.  Seems like 1or maybe 2 year old with less than 20,000 is still reasonable compared to new.  You start getting older or with more than 70,000 miles and the prices are retarded.  High trim levels are also holding their value.

Bad time to buy if you’re looking in that range.

I just bought a new 2020 F150 3 weeks ago.. I traded in a 2012 F150 with low mileage it was very clean as i take good care of it. Had 73k miles on it and of course it was the master race the 5.0. I paid 33 or 34k for it back in December 2011. They gave me 21k for it on trade in. I was shocked, he said used car prices are nuts and have been. Of course the new truck similarly equipped add 4wd was 50k... a substantial uptick in cost since 2011. Either way I paid cash for it dont owe anything and if i'm lucky this truck will last me 15 years. Then who the heck knows. It's crazy but i dont know how the world works anymore.

You can still get into a truck fairly cheap if you option it like GD’s wet dream.......base model, 4x4, single cab long bed.

But no one really wants that, do they? They want leather and nav and heated seats and up level trims and.......rolling luxury trucks.

And then they’re mystified when that truck is expensive.

FJ cruiser isn’t a good example. They don’t make them anymore and there is more demand for them now then in 2011-14. 2014 is also the last year so they do bring a premium.

Nope.... dont care about nav/heated seated and all that crap.

But I want a crew cab because I gotta haul the family and pup, and since the cab is so long, I want a shorter bed so it is short enough to be driveable.

The problem is - that configuration is so high in demand.  Everyone wants that.

Sticker on mine is 76, purchased for 68k in 2017 (2018 model). I've put 65k miles on it.

I was getting and oil change and looking at a new Tremor F250 and a salesman said let us see what we can get for your old truck. It wasn't taking up any time so I agreed.

65k. Somehow, those 65,000 miles cost me 3k? It makes no sense.

Not YOU, OP.......in general. That config is in high demand, and most are updated with better trims.

And it drives the used market.

There’s no doubt that it’s absolutely fucking nuts. I cannot believe what they are offering me for my 7yr old Tundra.

Open your search to nationwide and plan a 2-3 day rental car road trip to save some cash.

4x4 is gonna jack with the price, but in the last 6 months I've seen quite a few 4dr Ram 1500's for $18-20k NEW. I even saw a 2dr 2020 last fall for $15k, I almost jumped on that one but it sold in a couple days, guessing it was the last on the lot and they wanted it gone for 2021's coming in.

I don't like it but 200,000 is the new 100,000 miles. In my area your best bet is to pick the newest year you can afford and don't pay as much attention to miles.

Yeah I am just accepting the fact that I won't be able to afford a new truck until the kids are out of college, which is about 20 years from now. Then with inflation, I'll probably end up still having to buy used.

I go back and forth on this. My current truck is a loaded up diesel Laramie. My next one could be a stripped gasser (which I'll supplement with a 911 or R8) or I'll just go diesel Laramie again. Its purely a work truck, but i spend a lot of time in it. My brothers new AT4 2500 is damned nice. It was $71k. Honesty, I feel like that price is pretty fair compared to the $52k I paid for my '06 F250 and $55k I paid for my '15 2500. It has a lot of fanciness ( 2 tone leather, premium sound, active cruise, cameras everywhere, power tailgate, etc..... Don't need any of it, but it all costs something).
