Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Lightroom presets

I downloaded a photographers presets when he was giving several away for free (Jared Polin, Fro Knows Photo).  I searched on how to add them to be able to try them, and it seemed easy enough, but they don't show up on the left after I have restarted Lightroom.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.  

Any ideas?

They might need a different file extension, if I recall.  Adobe made a few changes, and it messed some things up.  I just can't recall what I did to get some presets to work.  It was a couple months ago, and I wasn't enamored with the presets, so I just dropped the whole matter.

Mac or Windows? Which version of the OS?
Which exact version of Lightroom?
Are the files .XMP or .LrTemplate?
