I came across this incase anyone was interested
https://www.reddit.com/r/cocktails/comments/5um8zh/smugglers_cove_tiki_cocktail_book_index/ it is an ingredient index of the smugglers cove recipes (does not contain amounts or techniques). basically its a way to figure out what drinks you can make with what you have on hand, or what you need to get |

Quoted: I tried to like the 23, but definitely thought the XO was better. That price seems high. It's $90 a bottle here. View Quote I thought so too, but there's only one store within 50 miles that sells the XO so whatcha gonna do? I just Googled it, and it looks like $125 is the going rate. A different store in my area is the only store that carries 23 within 50 miles. The owner swears Zaya is better. I remind him all the time that he is wrong. If I'm not mistaken, no stores in Alabama sold Zacapa 10 years ago. I assume it had something to do with Alabama Beverage Control. They're goofy. |

They're about 10% higher than retail, which is a necessary markup for private liquor stores in Alabama. It would be worth $49 to me, even $59, but $98 after tax is too high to me. Zacapa has much more body and a more smooth taste to me. |

Quoted: I am VERY new to rum I recently got into cocktail making and I am experimenting with new drinks all the time, most of this has been in the Whiskey and Gin areas I am wanting to get into rum based and tiki cocktails I picked up a bottle of Bacardi white rum yesterday I am looking for 2-3 bottles to add to the collection that will be versatile for making drinks, I was thinking of a dark rum, jamacian run, and something else if I may need it. I am not looking to break the bank as far as price, any advice on what to get? View Quote I keep bacardi superior for white rum in cocktails, kraken for black spiced rums in cocktails, and Flor De Caña for drinking by itself. |

I have gone though a few bottles of Leblon Cachasa for caipirinhas
Is Novo Fogo worth the extra money? Leblon is typically $17.99/750ml around here, Novo Fogo is about $30 |

Novo Fogo is my first and only cachaca so I can't compare it to any others. I can say I'm really digging it though.

Quoted: This smugglers cove book... is it filled with different rum cocktail recipes View Quote majority are rum based as ohiobr said, its a tiki book. most drinks are 6+ ingredients. how ever one of my go to drinks is a Corn and Oil, 1/2oz of John D. Tayler's Velvet Felarnum, 2oz of Rum (I have been using El Dorado 5yr), and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on ice and stir Jet Pilot is 2 different fruit juices, 3 different rums, falernum, cinnamon syrup, and herbstura bitters. It's one of my favorite tiki drinks so far. I have tried a few Mai Tais and the recipe in the book is my favorite so far. |

Ringing in the new year with Bumbu. Sweeter than what I normally drink, but the hint of banana is nice.

Anyone tried the foursquare detente? I'm deciding between that and the sagacity. The detente was only a few dollars more. My local store has both of those and they also have the 2008 and 2007. Too many choices.

It was sitting on a shelf off to the side, only 1 bottle was available.
After getting home and looking up reviews, it appeared to be a mixed bag. Done people's loved it, others not so much. I enjoyed it. Lots of raisin upfront, nutty at the finish. I'm not a huge rum guy but am trying to branch out from bourbon. Not a bad sipper in my opinion. |

The cheapest I've seen any Foursquare in my area is ~$85. I've still not splurged for any. Getting lots of enjoyment out of $25-40 bottles of aged rum.
