Quoted: Not really oversized or a pilot watch as such. I swap between the stainless bracelet and a couple dozen nato straps about as frequently as I change underwear. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/131934/EC3F0EEE-E94C-42F8-9AD6-9B6BAB81E9A3-2399227.jpg View Quote I recognize that sliding window. Nice watch. |

I quit wearing a watch to work years ago. A bunch of guys in the dept wear smart watches, mainly so the can read texts without pulling out their phone. Kind of tempted to try one out just for that reason.

Just noticed this was in the aviation forum, I'm no pilot though. I've always wanted an IWC big pilots watch, but I can't afford it. I noticed this watch in a surf store while buying my kids school clothes about 10 years ago. It's the closest I'll get to the IWC. It's big (51mm), it's black, and it's got white numbers. Nixon 51-30PU. I had to have it:

Quoted: A good friend of mine has this one from when he flew. GG-W-113 May 1976 date on the back of this one. Said he went though a few of them. https://i.imgur.com/JqKbDRP.jpg View Quote Very cool piece. It is kind of funny how much these things go for on the secondhand market these days. The old-head pilots when I was just getting into the USAF hated them because they couldn't really take a beating. The first watch I was issued in USAF pilot training in the 90s was a Casio DW5600E, which I thought was kind of cheesy at the time. I remember a couple Lt Cols commenting that we were lucky that they actually issued us something that would work, unlike the crappy "hack watches" (that was the common term for the watch you have, because you could get a 'time hack' with them) they were issued when they were students. My dad just gave me his watch that my mom bought him when he got his certificate, back in in the early 70's. Hamilton Pan-Europ 703. He wore it every day for years, so it's going out to be restored. I'm rather pleased. :)

Posting this for our brother @screechjet1 who is currently in (temporary?) self-imposed exile from ARFCOM but living the good aviation life and wanted to contribute to the thread.

Quoted: Nice looking piece. View Quote It’s grown on me. Titanium, so it’s not as heavy as it looks. I really wanted a Bremont MBIII, but this one ended up being a really good deal, all things considered. It kept great time, until my youngest tried to pick it up with a magnet….One of these days It will have to go home to England for a service. |

I’m grounded, but will dig out my 1972 Speedmaster Professional and post a pick.

Any watch store should have a machine that can do it. I'm not a pilot but I wear a pilot watch. Attached File |

I don't have a "big pilot watch", just a Timex. But, I have a very big pilot paycheck, which I'll take over any watch.
