Good story. In on one (damn, missed it)… love that freakin model truck. Teenage buddy and his dad had a baby blue restored, tubbed out bed with I think 18” Mickey T’s on the rear, and a nitrous switch.

OP.....
Start a real thread over in the general cars/bikes. This thread will probably be archived in a week, and 20-30 pages back. Take pics of your progress....and then post those pics. Do your research.......thousands of those trucks have be restored....resto-modded.....and all-out race custom. So tons of info out there just waiting for guys like you to come along and read it. |

Not to mention the best looking trucks ever, in my opinion. |

Okay, we have a plan after a few beers last night...
Truck is staying with him, bed is staying here. I ordered all the parts that require welding last night. When they arrive, we take it to our dad's shop and thrash all weekend welding and cutting. Then it comes here to be finished. I had zero idea how much he had already done. Fully rebuilt small block, intake, 4 barrel, headers, etc. Totally rebuilt the rear. All new brake lines. New aluminum rad. $4k worth of stuff from LMC already put on. The list goes on and on. I gave him $4k even though he wanted less. He really wanted me to have this truck Then I proceeded to order $1500 of stuff from LMC. Now I'm poor. |

OST this fantastic thread, SDMF_Rebel.
In my childhood, I had neighbors with a 63 C10 stepside that I thought would be really cool to drop a 350 into and do a Corvette grandsport paint job on. They sold that truck when they moved and I have no idea where it ended up. Certainly I think you're going to have a lot of success with this truck and I look forward to reading about it. |

Not much will be original. The front fenders are toast. Door bottoms will get cut out. Rockers, floor, and corners have already gotten done. Roof drip edge needs to get done. Drives bed wheel arch is getting cut out. Chassis is still solid. Engine was yanked. Trans is original, so is the rear. The cab was only ever red. The bed was maroon with yellow underneath. Yellow was the original. |

Try going to your local air gas or welding supply store and buy a few strip disks. They fit on a small grinder and work way better than a wire wheel to remove paint from metal without removing metal. They look like a sponge or a scotchbrite with grit in it, but last a long time.
Or just Google strip disk. |
