I’ll start off saying that I am a mid-size shop and enjoy most of my customers. I read on GD about price gouging and the current environment, I think you guys have little clue of what I pay and where I get stuff from right now. Do you think that I have special connections to buy pallets of ammo at 2019 pricing? Fire. Away.

Yes, 9mm $34.95, 5.56 $16.49
I am seeing very little wholesale ammo and have resorted to GB and a few off out of normal suppliers. |
|
|
How come you don't sell your stuff at a loss or give it away like the .gov?
|
|
Nothing right now, I see “oddball calibers” 2-3 boxes at a time and usually sells the same day.

Did you turn enough of a profit during the initial boom to float you through the shortage?
My lgs was super busy, then stock started dwindling, curious if it was enough to keep the doors open now that he is having a harder time filling the shelves. |
|
Sometimes I wonder why I sell locally and don’t just put it online and make more, with less heartburn.
|
|
Are distributors raising prices on guns? It seems plenty of guns are hard to find and selling at stupid prices on gun broker. But most of the big boxes (Academy) and even my local LGS are still selling guns at "normal" prices when they get them in.

Really, I’m concerned about the next 2, if I can make it through that, I think 4 is no problem.

No question, but thank you for being in the business, which IMO well serves the community.
Well, maybe one question - or thought. If I owned a shop, I'd prolly be disappointed in how some believe that with a transfer, I'd be expected to stop all my business activities and give the transfer my top priority attention asap (beyond meeting the requirement to log it in). I mean, I've had my share of interwebs bought transfers sent to my LGS, that I too was excited about getting, but honest to God, I kinda think the stores are saints to deal with the work and spend the time to make something like $25 or $30. But I'm not in the business, so I don't know what the profit margin is on firearms that the LGS traditionally stocks. |

What's you gun inventory like these days? Getting much in?
Gotta a Ruger RPR in 6.5? |

I spend most of the day on the phone or computer trying to scrounge where ever I can. |

What's the chances of actually buying a gun? Are the shelves stripped bare?

It sucks when our customer walks in 5 minutes after fedex and expects us to have the transfer ready. I want to make the customer happy and we are diligently working on getting it logged in, it will be ready within an hour or two. We call as soon as it’s logged in. |

Do you do consignments, and if so, is it something ya welcome as fair profit or worth the time, or is it more of something ya offer just to be a full service store, or mostly just to help generate traffic? Again, I don't know the profit margin for stocked new stuff (don't wanna or need to know), so I have no idea if consignments are something LGSs welcome - but I kinda think it must be nice not having to foot the full funds initially just to get it in the store and on display, though.

25+ years of being a gun owner has taught me a couple of things but one thing sticks out for the purposes of this thread:
Gun Stores Aren't My Friend. I classify them right next to used car dealerships; they are just necessary evils I have to deal with if I want to go shooting. So go ahead and be rude, profiteering and self-serving, OP... I think that's pretty much expected from you. |

Has the nonsense over the last year changed which rifles / guns youre selling compared to years past?
