The VA should have oversight I believe. Just don't know who exactly you call.
ETA: This is the general number for VA National Cemeteries. But, again, I don't know if they would have jurisdiction or answers. 1-800-698-2411 |

Is there a cemetery commission in your state? Texas made a big effort to document every grave yard in the state to insure that none of them disappeared about 20 years ago.

We live near a cemetery, when we were restoring the house, we found tombstones that were being used as steps, they were upside down, couldn’t see the writing. At first we thought that they were stolen from the cemetery, but found out that the original stones were updated, and discarded for newer ones. The previous owner was told he could have the old ones.
Might be the same here, sometimes the marble stones were updated to bronze, and attached to the more traditional civilian tombstones. Give the VA a call see what they say.. |

Fair to say...
Where there is one there is more. And I am going with A LOT more given the fact that the two names are alphabetically next to one another and in the middle of the alphabet. Scientific sampling could be done by the OP by measuring between the current two stones. Go another spacing in line to plot the next two points to test dig. Then work to the left or right from there... If more stones are found take note of names and establish the rows/column spacing. OP gonna have the whole damn place claimed by Spain. |

We find graves surveying frequently. There must be an archeological dig/site assessment, GPR(ground penetrating radar), and a survey of the grave site delineated on the property boundary along with necessary setbacks as required.

It will be straightforward to identify if those souls are properly interred elsewhere.
Then that means just stones dumped/repurposed as others have said. Find a Grave may be able to answer your question pretty quick. You have a lot of information. |
