Just did a head gasket on my 1.6L 16V swapped Suzuki Samurai, I’ve been fighting bubbles in my coolant system for weeks and I finally resigned myself to the fact that I needed to do a head gasket.  Here’s the video if you’re interested.

Been enjoying your videos man.

Question:

Im looking to snag a gen3 Jimny now that the 1998s can come across the pond from Japan.

I would like to do a 1.3/1.6/1.8 swap, the 660cc while neat has gotta go.

What USDM vehicle do I need to be on the look out for to get the block/harness?

Id like a 1.8 but not sure those came to the US.

Thanks!

@spud

That's awesome man, my buddy Steven Sharrett on the Our Garage youtube channel has a newer Jimny with the little 660cc but it's turbo'd. I got to drive it last fall on our trip to ATL and that thing was pretty peppy with that turbo, I was surprised.

The engines that you want to look out for are the 90's era Suzuki Sidekick and Geo Trackers with the 1.6L 16V engine or 8V. Also look for the 2.0L out of the gen 2 Vitara/Trackers and the one you really wanna find is the 2.3L out of the Suzuki Aerio. I would stay away from the 1.8L personally, they came in the Sidekick Sports. You can get complete swap kits from TrailTough, Petroworks, TrailGear, LowRangeOffroad and a few other places. I'm using the Petroworks kit which in my opinion is the best swap kit out of all of them. Some places have ready made harnesses or you could send yours out to John Browne like we did.

Speaking of Our Garage, Steven is currently doing a 2.3L swap in his Jimny. Thanks for watching my videos.
