Just bought my first welder!! - Page 1

[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Just bought my first welder!!

I know its not as nice as you real welders have, but I have always wanted to learn how to weld, so I picked this up. Local guy sold it to me BNIB for $400. Box is a little beat up but everything inside is in great shape, still all factory wrapped. Im pretty happy with the deal. I will be working on installing 220 in the garage tomorrow and picking up basic equipment to get started. Will be doing mostly flux core until I can afford a bottle to add to the setup. I am guessing I am looking at around $300 starting out for a filled bottle?

Good times. It's so handy to have a welder even if your welds aren't pretty. It's nice to fix/build something you need when you need it.

I have the 120v version - a 135 I believe. It does great on flux core up to about 3/8". Gotta make sure it is on a good 20A circuit though.

This one suggests a 40A breaker, so I will be running a 2 pole 40A breaker with 8AWG from my panel to the side of the garage I plan on using it most

Congrats..You can rent a tank at your local welding supply. I think I pay $60.00yr, Go to the dump & pickup some scrap steel to practice with. Have fun.

Great deal man, its a great welder to learn on.

I'm sure your probably already subscribed to a bunch of Youtube channels but some great ones we have watching in some of my classes are:

Well, first update, while setting it up, there was a pop, and the fan stopped working. Everything else worked, but I stopped to prevent damaging it any further. I called Lincoln and they told me based on the serial number, it has 2 years left on the warranty and they are taking care of all repair costs.
