May have to cut back in competitive shooting before long, I’ve been waiting for 4 months to find more large pistol primers. Down to 1500rds loaded, and just got a few thousand CCI primers the other day for $84/1000. I held out as long as I could...

I would look at it this way. "Normal" price for a primer is .03-.04 depending on shipping and tax. You just paid .084. So realistically it's going to be a nickel more per round. Would you rather pay a nickel more a round or not be able to shoot? Pretty easy question to answer for me.

ETA: Typing on phone sucks Now math is more better.

I have enough large and small rifle primers to last me a year. I only have 300 large pistol and 3000 small pistol. Both of those are going to be rationed pretty severely. If I had confidence that anything would be available in a year, it would be enough for me to shoot 9mm like I used to. (I have about 3k in loaded 9)

Did you use your calculator to answer the question or did you run out of zeroes?

Once Im done with my current stock im going to wait a little bit.

I have plenty to shoot, plenty to save, but figure Ill need to restock in a year or 2.

Ill probably go back to 1911s gor competition because i have more ammo and components.

I wish I never loaded the spp cases as I have more lpp now.

That being said, $84/k is tempting

$84 per 1K?  Somebody posted a pic of a Dallas gun show at $375 per 1K. You got a smoking deal.

I'd gladly pay that for small pistol primers if I could find any.

I hunt for reloading supplies religiously and I’ve just about given up hope. There are only 2 companies that produce them domestically and I’m pretty sure they are purposely not releasing them in order to drive up demand for factory ammo.If it weren’t such a feast or famine situation I’m sure someone else would go into production domestically. What I can’t figure out is how come we aren’t seeing imports fill the gap.

The companies who make primers make more profit in loaded ammo than primers.

So when they have billions of dollars on backlog orders, it makes far more business sense to use every primer possible to load factory ammo.  Capitalism in action.

We don’t see major availability of primers for a long time, probably years.

Everyone had a couple years to stock up.

ETA: COVID has caused havoc among international shipping.

There are plenty of primers available.  You just have to be willing to pay a premium.
