For some reason I really want one of those NAA top break 22 mag revolvers… the Ranger I think they call it.

There's a cute little 5-shooter in this picture, too. But it's not the .45-70...

Was already planning on posting the two extremes and couldn't resist the temptation to kid around a little. No disrespect intended.

I've always wanted a NAA Pug but haven't pulled that trigger yet.

I pretty much swore off the little NAA revolvers when I got rid of my first one, a .22 Mag/LR convertible. Then found this older one in LR dating from before they started putting the safety notches between chambers at a low price and...oops.

Edited to add: I had a BFR before finding the Century Mfg .45-70 six-shooter. Had a friend who wanted the BFR really badly and let him talk me out of it in a weak moment.

Okay, I have to ask. The short SBH on the left end, does it have a light colored front sight or is that a ding in the wood underneath and it doesn't have a front sight at all?

I just got finished loading up a hundred rounds of .38 special. I had about 600 rounds of brass that I had already resized, expanded and primered so all I had to do was add powder and a bullet and run them through the seating die, then through the crimp die.

While I was doing that I found several bags of .44 bullets, so I may go back and do some of those too.

This is one of 18 revolvers and 1 lever action rifle I have that will shoot .38 Special, an S&W Model 10. Not a very good picture but I do not have a lot of light in the house, and with the snow covered gound outside there's not really a place to take a picture.

The Smith and Wesson Model 87-You.

Despite being very rare they have very low resale value.

They are great values though, because usually they only have a round count of "one" when you find one.

Looking for a Airweight to keep in a pack while hiking, but a coworker mentioned he has a Charter Arms he’ll sell for cheap.   Like $100 or so.  I know it’s a budget gun compared to a 686 or GP100, but would it be worth it?   Couple boxes of ammo included too.  No details other than it’s a 5 shot snubbie with wood grips.  Early 1990’s production

@Molasses

The front fell off.

I had some less than stellar gunsmithing done and he did a poor job of soldering the sight on the short barrel. I was shooting it and the front sight went flying off, I need to get it reattached.

I was guessing as much, but I wasn't totally eliminating the possibility of some light-colored brass alloy blade almost blending into the background. Thanks!

Thanks.   The Soviets had a subsonic suppressor that secured onto the barrel like a socket bayonet (think of fixing a Civil War bayonet).

These two S&W are what would be considered gentleman's revolvers since they're small framed five-shot .38s. But they aren't. 38 Special, oh no, these are in .38 S&W. A cartridge dating back to 1877.

The top-break is a S&W .38 Double Action 2nd Model and the solid frame is a S&W Model 33-1 .38 Regulation Police, built on the J-Frame.

Reloading is vastly different, yet very simple for both.

Size wise, the grip of the top-break is slightly shorter than the solid frame but overall length from the back of the frames to the end of the barrels is about the same.

Both are fixed iron sights. Nothing is adjustable.

I don't shoot either often, but I do shoot them and have carried both in the past. They're comfortable and the .38 S&W, while a slouch compared to modern defense loads, is not completely useless. A 145gr .361 lead slug traveling just under 700fps will still ruin someone's day with a good "T-Box" hit.

The .38 S&W has a history of putting bad guy six feet under. It served as a police duty cartridge in the US prior to WWI and served the British Armed Forces and it Colonies from the 1920s all the way to the 1960s and beyond in some far flung locations that used to be under the Union Jack.

One such famous use of the .38 S&W was by Colonel Rex Applegate himself. After WWII, Col. Applegate was down in Mexico working as a contractor to train and modernize the Mexican Armed Forces. While down there in 1950, he and a Mexican Army Officer were attack by a machete wielding loon. The Colonel was concealed carrying a S&W Top-Break Lemon Squeezer in .38 S&W and plugged the attacker. All while the Mexican Army Officer was still fumbling, trying to draw his 1911 from a flap holster.

All in all, fun little guns and I can't wait until brass, powder, and primers become affordable again. I have about 300 rounds left. But I want more.
