At one time the Glock 26 was considered one of the best CCW pistols around.

Time moved on, with the current rage being thin single+ stacks that hold 10+ rounds.  The Glock is much thicker and bulkier.

Glock just started offering the G26 in MOS version.

Is the Glock 26 obsolete as a carry pistol?

Would you rank it as good a choice as a P365/Hellcat/43x or worse?  If worse, how much worse?

Would having a light rail change anything?

Maybe, maybe not. I’m sure someone somewhere will prefer it over other offerings for whatever reason that suits them fine. A 43X with shield mags makes more sense IMO.

No, it's perfectly acceptable for a CCW sidearm.

Obsolete?  Of course not.  I do think there are better choices.  I’m partial to the Shadow Systems CR920.

Got rid of mine.

I have better carry pistols and I have a G19.

The G26 doesn’t do anything for me. I’m sure it does for someone though

Nope, that pattern of Glock is my favorite to carry.  I’m looking forward to getting my hands on the MOS version as well.

I always hated the G26 and referred to it as the red-headed stepchild of the 9mm Glocks but tons of people love it. So, to each their own. I think Glock was smart to offer it in MOS and seems to have helped them sell new units of that model.

<-----Has a 43X w/15 round PSA mags

If my G26 is obsolete, so is my G19.
As long as it can take G19 fifteen round mags, G17 seventeen round mags and 33 round mags the G26 will survive.
That is something none of the single stacks can claim.

Obsolete? No

But I never understood it and certainly don’t understand it in 2023. Put a pinky extension or +1 on and it’s the same grip length as a g19
G43x/48 are slimmer and are 15+1
G43 is much smaller and 9+1

A P365 is a lot more comfortable. I do have a Gen5 Glock 26 that lives in a hill people gear Fanny pack for early morning and late night dog walks

I've been thinking about the 27...then adding a 26 and 33 slide brls.

Nope.  It's still the Goldilocks of pistols for me.

Doesnt print in a t-shirt, but anything bigger does.  13 rnds of HST with a 17 rnd reload if I choose so, and I shoot it better than anything smaller.

Only annoying thing is the lack of light rail.

I just ordered a new holster for mine. I have a renewed love for it.

I like capacity. And I can slap a huge amount of ammo into it for a reload and it will be RELIABLE.

But understand it's not a pocket gun.

There’s some places selling police trade in G27s for $299

It's not though.

For some people a G19 would make more sense, but for me a G26 with +2 conceals much better.

If I need something small, I carry my G42.

G19 is easy to conceal in almost all situations, imo.

The grip lengths come down to about the same with a pinky extension or + floor plate. Sure you can carry it out it with the flush mag, but not many do as they like the extra purchase.

I like my G26, I’ve been carrying mine for about 7 years and have put about 3-4k rounds through it without issue.

I find the double stack grip more comfortable than the single stack Glocks. I also like that it can use the larger double-stack mags if needed. I’ve toyed with the idea of getting a 43X, but I like the 26 so well that it just seems unnecessary. Plus, the 26 conceals perfectly well for me. I generally carry it in jeans and a t-shirt in an IWB Crossbreed holster. I doubt anyone’s ever noticed it’s there.

Glock 27 in the .40 master race?  Now we’re talking.

Yep can't be "obsolete" they still make them brand new, along with aftermarket parts, mags and ammo...

It's very close and I can see why some would just go with the G19, but the G26 with +2 has much less butt/heel to it, and that's what prints for me in a t-shirt.  It's enough of a difference for me to leave my G19 at home in the summer.

Carried one in my vest as a back up for years. Now being retired I prefer a G19 AIWB carry. Keepers Concealment. Very comfortable.

Love my Crossbreed Super Tuck holster.  Been carrying this IWB at about 4-o-clock for about 4 years.  I got the pistol & holster, mag holster, a small pile of mags, and the 2 X-grips off the EE for like $450 back in 2019.

Just because a company sells something, doesn’t make it a great choice for the consumer.

However, most people who carry think the smaller the better, and will see an MOS model as “now I can have the BEST carry gun”

The only benefit of it is it takes the full size double stack Glock mags and that is (and always has been) a huge advantage as a backup gun over anything single-stack or pocket revolver, for duty use

Is the Glock 26 obsolete as a carry pistol?

Not at all. It's still a 9mm carry gun with the same capacity and broad feature set as newer guns. The size difference is a matter of preference as much as anything, so all that really changed is that people who carried the 26 out of necessity but would prefer a smaller grip finally have a comparable option. Anyone who either liked the 26 grip as it is or found even that to be small (sasquatch has to carry too ) wouldn't have much incentive to go even smaller. The 26 is also 'friendlier' and less snappy to shoot because of the extra weight and size.

I'm kind of a niche case in that I prefer the 26 over any micro 9 but I still switched to a P365 for EDC because it's small enough to pocket carry and that benefit outweighs the drawback of a slightly more awkward grip for me. If I didn't have to conceal it I'd stick with a 26 in an OWB holster and be perfectly happy with it.

I think bringing MOS to it puts it back on par with stock offerings from SIG and SA, and I'd call it just as good a choice as the 365 or Hellcat if it happens to fit your hand better and work for your intended method of carry. A light rail would be nice, but none of the micro 9s except maybe the Hellcat have a great answer for that either, so it's not a particular drawback.

I much prefer my 43x to my 26 but lots of people shoot the 26 really well.
