Any Gulf War vets dealing with Gulf War Syndrome or Gulf War "Illness" as they are calling it now?

Have you gotten the feeling the .Gov & VA keeps sweeping it under the rug?

I am a Gulf War veteran and have been dealing with the VA since the early 1990s, trying to identify and treat some unexplained health issues only to run into roadblocks at every turn. They keep losing records, repeating exams, etc...

At one C&P exam, I noticed GULF WAR rubber stamped on my record jacket, like some internal coding for kicking that can down the road.

I have had numerous doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals over the years all tell me they have been seeing a pattern over the years. Veterans my age who were in Kuwait itself during the ground offensive are much more likely to have similar unexplained illnesses than veterans who were in theater, but not in the battlespace. One doc recently told me that she and others are of the opinion that these unexplained illnesses are due to over-inoculation among other exposures. After giving her my service and medical history, she said "yup, exactly what we are seeing time and time again". I had a civilian allergy doctor look at my shot record back in the early 2000s. He was the first one to say I had been over-inoculated and it screwed up my immune system response. It was no surprise I was having odd reactions to illnesses...

What are your thoughts and experiences?

I have had zero issues with the VA treating my GWS. I don't know if there is a stamp on my file or not. The only issue I had was when i filed my claim, they failed to recognized I served in the gulf. I had to appeal and it was immediately overturned.

I was sent by the VA in St Louis to the Gulf War Injuries Clinic at the Washington DC VA in 2006. Both VA hospitals had diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. I had an excellent rheumatoid arthritis doctor at the St Louis VA that was stumped at my conditions and finally decided to look into me having fibromyalgia. He then sent me to DC to have his diagnosis verified. I was also told that fibromyalgia is very prevalent in people that served in the Gulf during Desert Storm. If you get the right doctor, they will tell you that a lot of undiagnosed illnesses AKA GWS is actually fibromyalgia. I had to fight with them from 96 when I got out on a medical until 2006 before they would actually admit anything. Up until 2006 they could not give me an answer for my body/joint pains or my constant fatigue. And my records are stamped Gulf War Era Veteran. They still have yet to figure out what is wrong with my knees, They diagnosed my knees as patella femoral pain syndrome. In other words they have no idea why my knees hurt all the time and give out on me now and then. I'm sure jumping out of planes or being very skinny and carrying the M60 didn't help any.

Thanks chumpmeister. You sound just like me, physically, except for the jumping out of planes part...

They denied me on that and said Fibromyalgia is a woman thing.
Rare for Men to have.

And that it is all in my head.
But they give me Gabapetin for the pain???

No I am not done fighting the VA... I hired a Lawyer 3 yrs ago and they are Nickel and Diming the VA
getting my Rating boosted.

The rheumatoid doctor that I saw at the St Louis VA was one of the top doctors in the country. He said that yer fibromyalgia generally effects women with the exception of Gulf War Veterans. The doctors at the Gulf War Injury Clinic in Washington DC told me the same thing. Here are some helpful links from the VA themselves.

https://www.publichealth.va.gov/exposures/gulfwar/fibromyalgia.asp

https://www.publichealth.va.gov/exposures/publications/gulf-war/gulf-war-winter-2017/fibromyalgia.asp

From the last link:
Fibromyalgia is a presumptive illness for Gulf War Veterans: VA presumes that some health conditions, including fibromyalgia, were caused by military service. As a presumptive illness, Veterans do not have to prove an association between fibromyalgia and their military service. The condition must be at least 10 percent disabling and have first appeared sometime between active duty in the Southwest Asia theater of military operations and December 31, 2021.

Didn't even need to be there to get it.  I've thought for years it was the shots.  The 1st time we were doing our deployment stuff, they gave us 1/2 our shots but wouldn't let us keep our shot records overnight cause we might lose them.  Next day we came back, they had lost our shot cards.  Had to do all the shots over again.  Then a week later they found the 1st cards so as those had all our shots from basic & shit, they wanted those updated, but apparently they couldn't just go off the fact that we had the new one saying we got them, had to go back & get the 2nd half again.    I only found out a couple years ago that because I was stationed in Europe during some problem with their milk, I can't even donate blood.

I wasn't for sure if the ban on DS vets donating blood was still in effect or not. I was always told that I could not donate in the past.

The only shots we were given were smallpox when we went over in late 2005.  Anthrax was optional, I said fuck no to that shit.  Still have issues and whatnot happening so it's definitely not just shots.

We weren't given a choice about the shots or pills back in 90-91.
