Trained marines at Camp Pendleton on camouflage before being shipped out. Fought at Iwo Jima and saw the flag being raised. I never realized that all the ships were blaring their horns in celebration.
When he was returning to San Diego, the Marines had two barge loads of teen aged girls (17-19) jumping up and down as greeters. The Marines went wild. D*mn. we don't do that today.  Bernstein World War II Veteran U.S. Marine Corps Natick Veterans Oral History Project |
