We've always agreed to have an acoustic guitar in our living room and are trying to score a nice used baby grand piano for one corner (have a friend who isn't using theirs who will let us rehome theirs).  I've  always loved seeing brass and strings in a living space (former violinist and upright bassist).  Watching Green Book during the Wu-pocalypse maybe made me think of it again. Good movie if you haven't seen it with some great piano, bass and cello trio arrangements. What instruments display in the main area of your home?

Not mine, but just some cool ideas:

Growing up we had an upright piano in the living room.
It wasn't tuned and one of the hammers was broken iirc.
Mother played a little but we never really saw it due to the disrepair.
They eventually got rid of it.
I always wanted to have guitars hanging on the walls of my house but my ex-wife always balked at the idea.
I eventually had a bass with a small amp in the corner and lately have been wanting to hang some again.

My Mom had an upright piano in the living room that she played everyday when I was growing up. My guitars are in their cases sitting in a spare bedroom. I’d love to have them out on display, unfortunately we live in a small home and it’s just easier and less clutter if the guitars and amps are in the spare bedroom. My dream would be to find a house with a basement or bonus room where I could have my guitars and amps out as part of the rooms decor. I really do like the look of a room with instruments out on display.

We've got an upright piano that nobody plays

My guitars stay out of sight, thats mostly because of small grandchildren.

My poor place looks nothing like that. I do have six hanging in the living room. Only three can be seen from my current seat.

I had an old guitar I let the grandkids beat on. Photo is from 2012 if I remember correctly.

The guitar hangers are great.  High enough so the three year old can't get them but still easily accessible.

In the LV.room my wifes grandfathers arch top. My parlor guitar hangs next to it now. Far corner has my amp, another acoustic and my wifes moms autoharp. Attachment Attached File

Two hang in my bed room as well.

Thanks. Wife was happy i did it for her.
The parlor guitar is offset from it and is a dark burst like the arch top ,so it all looks right.

View from my bed, drinking coffee this AM.
My 1990s washburn D42s ... found it for 140$ frets had zero wear and imho was like new.

My little setup doesn't really compare well to some, but it's what I've got, although not showing the Line 6 and Fender amps.

Sorry for the potato pic.

A guitar and amp are always part of my living room ( the rest of the collection is setup in the basement).

Sorry about the awkward pic, I'm on my phone and had to resize some how.

I should have had a NGD/NAD post for my new quarantine acquisitions.

Charvel Style 2 with Fishmans and a 5150v3 with matching 2x12.

Nice looking living spaces!!

Here in AZ, it's so dry that it's not a good idea to leave your guitars sitting out all the time, especially acoustics.  Even with a sound hole humidifier, the tops can dry out and sink or possibly crack.

Those of you back east and in the midwest - be careful during winter time.  Heating systems dry our the air and can cause acoustics to dry out.  Sometimes you'll get "fret sprout" on necks (both electric and acoustic guitars) due to the neck wood shrinking from the dry air, while the frets remain the same size.  You may want to consider a humidifier in the room with the guitars.

At first glance I thought you had another super stretched out tele hiding behind your amp.

That's the ONLY nice thing about the Gulf Coast, I mean the mosquitoes are a bonus, right?  Humidity hangs in the 90% range most of the time.  Only problem is that humidity swings in the fall and spring mean you are constantly retuning. As my son started virtual school, every one of his teachers has commented on his wall of guitars that sits behind him in the webcam, and a couple asked him to play.

I don’t do it simply because I own nicer acoustics and my cabin isn’t conducive to their health.
Wood stove heat dries things out too much in the winter and living off dirt roads means dusting daily.

There may be a couple of horns (tenor and bass 'bones) and a clarinet on stands in one room by the keyboard.  And maybe a 5-string bass on the wall in another....

I tend to leave all my musical instruments in the living or dining room.

Right now I have the following in my living room:

- Blackstar HT20H
- 2x12 cab with V30's
- Fender Super Champ X2
- 2 Fender Strats
- 1 Ibanez RG
- 1 Jackson RR24M
- 1 Epi Les Paul Custom
- 1 PRS Allen Allender model
- 1 Fender Jazz Bass
- 2 Deering Goodtime Banjo's
- 1 Fender Banjo
- Yamaha Digital Piano

Most stay in their cases, but I usually keep 1 or 2 out in guitar stands. Been thinking of getting wall hangers, but am afraid they will fail or a cat will knock one down, and all my floors are tile, so if one falls, it's over for that guitar.

I've been watching Music is Win on youtube and I love the way he has all his guitars hanging on the wall behind him. That is ideally what I would like to do in the long run. Here is a pic of his set up and what I would like to do.

I really do prefer to leave my gear in the living room. I find that instead of just sitting my ass on the couch and watching tv or playing on my phone, I will grab a guitar instead and get a lot more practice in because of that. When I first moved into my house 3 years ago, I set up the 2nd room for all our musical instruments, and guess what....they hardly ever got played. Moved them, and know I am back to playing almost daily.

That is a dang nice setup. I'm planning in our next house to have room to setup my drum kit together with my guitar gear.

Thanks.  The drums are my sons.  I've never learned to play them.  I think I'd like to change that this winter.

I just finished our basement and made me a drum room. It’s not as big as I wanted but it’s better than nothing. I have some guitars to hang merely as decoration. We also have a baby grand in the formal living room on the main floor as you enter the house. Attachment Attached File

I love the sound of the room. It’s freakin loud. I’ve had people say I should hang acoustic foam on the walls but hell no. I can’t stand that shit. I want that “John Bonham recording in a castle” sound.
