Any ornithologists or herpetologists here?

Bird? Frog?

Mothman mating call?

I sat and listened to this persistent call this afternoon for over 15 minutes. It never seemed to move locations. Sounded like some sort of bird.

(Ignore the obvious traffic and insect noises in the background)

I hear that all of the time here in northwestern Pa. I just assumed it was tree frogs.

All I heard was heavy panting and seen a quarter pounder with cheese wrapper.

My comp sound sucks.  It sounds like a slow rolling woodpecker pounding a tree.

I've spent the last week or so hunting a reported Leprechaun sighting out by the reservoir. I have heard this sound repeatedly every morning, and I am starting to inherently comprehend the Lep tongue.. it just starts to make sense after a while. My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts, but when she sees that pot o' gold, she's gonna change her tune.

My computer says it's magma displacement, but I think it's a Russian submarine.

Too late to be a frog. Sounds like rodent/squirrels to me.

Huh.

I’ve seen chipmunks all my life but never consciously *heard* one until today.

Thanks guys!

That's a chipmunk or some similar type of ground squirrel.  They have a few burrows in my yard.  I always assumed it was a mating call.

That’s Mexican Cartels. Tunneling underground. Plain as day once you know the tell-tale sounds.

May as well call them chirpmunks from the sounds they make.

I don’t hunt. But chirpmunks and squirrels can be quite chatty. Especially if they sense danger. Kinda cool actually. Little watchmen.

I wonder if you can use that recording to screw with chipmunks. Make 'em all "Duck and COVER!!"

Likely. I’ve used bird calls on my phone to fuck with birds talking back to them.

Pro tip. Don’t do that with owls at night.  They mostly attack at night….mostly.

Sometimes squirrels sound like that here. Most times they have a bit of a higher pitch, but during mating season, the males will lower their voices to a deeper tone like that. Nearly the same sound structure amd cadence, so I'm going with squirrel or near relative.
