That is assuming that you can even find it. I just saw 170 gr czech 8mm going for $0.85 a round. and its selling.
Six months ago you could not even give the stuff away. |

Turk is better than the Czech...accuracy wise.
Turk still has the brittle brass issue. However transfer the powder and projo to new brass and it's good to go. Czech has been 100% sure fire but "meh" for accuracy. |
|
I usually use my milsurp stuff to shoot steel targets. 8mm hits like a sledge hammer :-)
|
|
Crazy prices. Haven't sent any 8mm downrange since my MG-08 went away back in the '90s (had the sled mount and a few extras). That thing ran smooth, but good cloth belts were tough to come by. Ammo costs weren't a concern.

I can remember back in the early 00's thinking long and hard about buying a couple of Mausers just to take advantage of the super-cheap surplus ammo that was out there at the time.
Like an idiot, I didn't do it. |
|
My son just got a Mauser for X-mas. We still don't have any ammo for it because I'm not will to pay the outrageous prices. Hopefully the market will calm down soon.
|
|
If I want to dump my Turk and don't feel like wading though the neck-beards to sell it I can get .60 cent a round from my LGS....They will sell it for .85 cents a round.
I always kept some around to clean-up the bores on RC K98s back when they were dirt cheap. The Soviets dip-blued the bores and all and the Turk ammo did a great job of cleaning them out for cheap. |
|
Lol I remember that in the early 2000s....cracked case necks on that late 40s stuff.
|
|
I have around 10k of Romanian and yugo 8mm on clips. I was amazed what the clips go for now.
|
|
I still have a ton of alleged CIA 8mm made in Canada for clandestine operations. Marked 1944 to confuse or so I read. It’s actually pretty awesome ammo out of my k98, very clean and accurate.

I have something like 4,400 rounds of the Turk 8mm surplus. Original bought it because I thought I was going to get a conversion kit for my M1919 but ended up not after some range reports. I have shot a little bit out of my 8mm Turk ‘54 ATF Mauser but when I shoot that, I usually shoot my hand-loads made from Ecuadorian surplus pull-downs, for accuracy.

I never minded the Turk stuff even with some of the bad reports I never had any go wrong on me. I dislike my Yugoslav 50’s the most out all the stuff I have or have shot. I’ve debated about going to one of the shops near me to see if the do consignment ammo as I would probably dump the Yugoslav

That stuff was GREAT! $3.50 for 70 rounds in a free bandolier with brass stripper clips. I had thousands of rounds of that stuff. I shot most of it in Yugo Mausers. It kicked pretty good, I called 70 rounds a good recoil therapy session. I still had a ton of it but it was stolen by a family member and his stripper GF. I wish I had it now, it would have been a pretty good return on investment.,

Ive got about 10 cans of that linked clickbang shit SG was selling a while back. Ill sell some for $10,000 a can.

I dumped a few thousand rounds of 1953 Yugo stuff a few months ago for .50 cents a round....... and was actually glad to get rid of it....I''m officially out of the 8mm Mauser business....
The same guy who bought it insisted I sell him some French .30 carbine ammo from 1962 I was getting ready to pull down, and scrap...... I told him every round that wasn't a dud would be a hangfire....and would corrode his carbines gas system....he bought it anyway..... I don't even know what is going on anymore.... I'd price Turk on strippers at .75 cents a round..... |
|
I have a lot of 8mm of Turk, Yugo, and Greek, put away. Century had it so cheap it was crazy not buy a bunch. I figured I'd be set for retirement shooting when the day comes.

There's some random steel case from miwall that I've never heard of for .88/round.
I'm thinking about trying some in my Yugo 1924 |

Wow. I have one of those Turk 1700 or 1800 rd crates in the basement. Haven't shot that stuff in a long time.
I have 7 or 8 crates of the Romanian 8mm green steel case stuff for my 2 k89's. Love that stuff. Already on Mauser strippers. |

I've got about 1400 rounds of Turk but I rarely shoot it. I usually end up pulling the bullets and loading it and the powder into a new case. If I have other people who want to shoot a bunch, I'll let them shoot the Turk stuff. I just don't like having to clean it after shooting 20 rounds or so. It's got a whallop, though, that's for sure.
I put some of it on a local board at $40/bandolier but no bites. Not surprised around here, though. I have 1939, 1945, 1947 and 1950. Only year I've had issues with is the '47 with split brass even before firing. I for sure download that stuff. |

Been a long time since I've laid eyes on that crate. I worked at an importer for some years. Got it and the new production Romanian 8mm really cheap. |

I have some really clean Turk in bandoliers I bought from a member. Tried to sell some a while back and couldn't give it away. Also listed some old Bulgarian and it went immediately.
|
|
Depends if it has pre split necks or not.
I've still got a few hundred rounds of it left as my M48 doesn't like the steel cased Romanian. Doesn't really seal the chamber that well and I get a puff of gas in the face every once in a while. |

The bandoliers of Turk 7.92 I have are 196gr steel/nickel jacket and loaded HOT......holy crap that stuff punches through stuff. I also got mine for 3cents/round when I had a FFL in the salad days.

Quoted: Check the primer sealant color. The majority of Turk was 154grn. It had a black sealant. Green indicated 196-198...and is considered "rare" for Turk 8mm. View Quote I don't recall the sealant color and I'm 300 miles away from it right now. But most of the 1400 rnd crates I bought were 40's vintage with green bandos. I've got some from another source that had the blue bandos. Don't recall what vintage those were, but they looked newer. |

An easy way to tell is the 196gr. came in 6 pocket 60 round bandoleers and the 154 gr. came in 7 pocket 70 round bandoleers. The 154gr. had a black primer annulus and best I can recall the 196gr. was green. |

I really regret not buying more milsurp guns and ammo in the 2000s.
