The "flirt with other women in front of your date" advice is an arrogant misstep anyway, and at this point I'd be surprised if many guys actually went that far. There's a difference between playful challenges and actual disrespect, and that advice falls in the latter category. Guys who try it might have more success than when they were fawning all over their date with unearned compliments and blowing up her phone like their lives revolved around her, but in and of itself it's generally a turn-off to women. There are much more natural ways for men to establish that they have options, like maintaining emotional self-control, having a balanced life outside of her, and not dropping all their other plans at the first sign of female validation. The same difference between "having a life" and "playing games" goes with phone-waiting: On the one hand, guys shouldn't be constantly checking their phone for a chance to immediately respond to a girl. If she messages at an inconvenient time, they'd be wise to wait until after they're done with work or whatever they're doing (or until morning if it's late, etc.) to avoid setting the dangerous precedent of constantly being available on demand. (Plus, to keep the romance interesting and build excitement, they shouldn't be wasting their good conversations over the phone or text. Set the next date, give yourselves both something to look forward to, and move on with your day.) On the other hand, waiting more than a day on purpose is just playing mind games out of insecurity. The point is that setting healthy boundaries establishes your sense of value and emotional self-control, and the more effortless and genuine it is, the easier it is to maintain in the context of any ensuing relationship. Letting her wait on a response a natural amount of time can build anticipation and set healthy expectations for the future; making her wait an unnatural amount of time can build resentment and boredom, just like being her malleable play-thing. |
