Sold some reloading stuff today and thought I'd get back into .45 Colt in a SAA type pistol. Picked up a Uberti for free based on the sale. I paid extra to get one with the checkered grips as opposed to smooth. I like it. Too bad I can't get ammo.

It doesn't look right, but it looks like it will work just fine.

Please, ruin my new gun day. What's wrong with it (I know the hammer sides should be in the white)?

Ironically, a local place actually had .45 Colt ammo the other day.

Hell of a drive from GA, though.

Good looking gun but when you get ammo, I think you will not like the checkered grips.  I had a Colt with checkered Herrett's grips and touching off a load with 250 gr. bullet at 900fps was not pleasant.  Smooth or carved plow handle SAAs is mo better.

Part of the design of the grip was the pistol moved back in your hand so you could cock the hammer again with your thumb.  They did their shootin' one handed. Can't do that with the checkered grip.

but it's a good looking gun and SAA's are awesome

The checkering isn't going to let it roll in his hand on firing like smooth grips, it's plow handle single action thing.

modern polymer guns should all have checkering

actual checkering

not this faux-stippling bullshit

Nice, I have two Ruger stainless new vaqueros in 45 Colt with the extra cylinders for 45 ACP. Good thing you reload, it ain't cheap to shoot in 45 Colt. I reload both 45 ACP and 45 Colt. Get some brass from Starline on backorder if not in stock, bullets are available since their are a lot of lead bullet makers - especially for 45 Colt - I use Unique powder but even now you can find TrailBoss around which a lot of Cowboy Action Shooters like. So as long as you have large pistol primers you should be able to buy the rest and be reloading in a few weeks. As per people telling you the checkering is wrong - well I know a lot of actual shooters who much prefer checkering and the old cowboy guns often had checkering too.

You should try getting into reloading. You'd be able to make your own ammo!

I think that model has a slightly longer grip than the standard Single Action Army grip, which is a good thing.  If you don’t like the grips, they are easy enough to change.

No idea.  I bought it off a table at a gun show about 12-13 years ago.

Cool. I need to get some leather for my guns. There's just so many options out there. It can be pretty overwhelming.

It doesn't look right, but it feels good in the hand.

I dig it OP. I much prefer the checkered grips on my El Patron over the standard grips on my other Uberti. The found the other grips to be slippery and odd looking. I cut the shine off them with some birchwood casey stock sheen cutter.

The checkered grips were fine as is.

I think it looks pimp.
But I don't know the details of wheel guns. so I don't have much of a 'taste' acquired yet.

A buddy of mine has one of those Uberti SAAs in .357, and I adore it.  We usually load it with .38spl and it's just buttery smooth.  I personally wouldn't have paid extra for the checkered grips, but it doesn't look bad at all.

I’ve always wanted one to randomly open carry, with leather holster and belt too. People will be all “man, don’t fuck with that guy, he’s carrying that so he’s ready to sling leads!” Or they’d think, “look at that stupid fuck.”

Either way, still CC my P365XL just in case I actually do need to use it.

Very nice gun OP. I’m starting to like wheel guns myself.

The reason I never bought leather for mine, is I know exactly what it would lead to. I'd go full retard at El Paso Saddlery, which would lead to an expensive pair of western boots, spurs, and getting myself hung from the neck until dead for horse rustling one of my neighbors horses.

I'm too young to be hung from the neck until dead.
