I'm sure this has been done before, but I need some books to read.
Lately I've read some crappy emp books, they were ok, not very gripping though.

What are some of your favorites?
They don't have to be only emp, they can be zombie, nuclear war, killer virus, anything along those lines.

I've got Kindle unlimited so probably most would be available, if not I could download and sync to my Kindle with calibre.

There are more bad ones than good ones for sure. I will look through my Kindle library later and see what I remember some of the better ones being.

Alas Babylon,
From Amazon description:
Set in the early 1960's, when a nuclear holocaust ravages the United States, a thousand years of civilization are stripped away overnight, and tens of millions of people are killed instantly. But for one small town in Florida, miraculously spared, the struggle is just beginning, as men and women of all backgrounds join together to confront the darkness.

Here's Cold Camp by Tim J

https://www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=200

A trilogy by another ARFcommer that I enjoyed was Pillars in the Fall/Against the Grain/ Crossing Blurred Lines by Ian Daniels.
Set some years into a catastrophic economic slide that essentially passes the point of no return, it follows a young man who is an unapologetic moody loner who finds his metier in the collapse as a bandit killer.
He scavenges and hunts for a loose group of families that he has some ties with and helps them deal with the situation that is slowly deteriorating past lawlessness into chaos.
Bleak and ugly. Morally very gray.

Wikipedia is actually useful for some things:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_apocalyptic_and_post-apocalyptic_fiction

My picks:

Lucifer's Hammer
The Road
Y-The Last Man (comic series)
War of the Worlds (original book)
Monster Island (book 1 of three, free on internets, supernatural zombies)
Autumn Series (David Moody, first one is slow but under-rated zombie books for sure)
The White Plague (Frank Hubert, same guy that wrote Dune)
Alas Babylon
Earth Abides
Adrian's Undead Diary
The Stand (unabridged, 1600 page version)
Swan Song
Footfall (if you read Lucifer's Hammer, wait a year then read this)
Triumph (Phillip Wylie, this is early 70's schlock, but it is a fun story about a bunker and nuclear war)

If you pick one, read "The Road".  I'll freeze your soul. Don't read if you are unstable at all.

I was a fan of the Horseclans novels written by Robert Adams.

Most of them are set hundreds of years after the apocalypse though, and there's lots of fantasy and science fiction elements thrown in.

Dust series.  Although actually after the end of the world.  Same writer wrote IZombie which is told from the perspective of zombie and is an interested take on the genre.

There is a series of short stories, The End is Nigh (covers immediately prior to the end of the world) and the End is Now.  Good bathroom reading.
