When it comes to buying stuff I live by a very old Chrysler motto.

More is more.

If I can get more stuff and options for the same price I will go for it.

Just one reason why we probably own as many Rugers as we do.

Even if I was a billionaire, Sure I would have a Rolls Royce,  But instead of going for the phaeton I would just end up getting a ghost with every single option possible.

Super high end watch? I'll just give Credor 750k to make me a one off.

But I'm just middle class, So I have to have more reasonable tastes.

Which is why for cars I like Kia so much, take for example.

Compared to the Japanese, who are the only other present day automobiles i like, the Koreans give me more for less or equal, For what I want I would typically have to spend a 1000 more dollars to get the revelant options trim for trim.

Is it going to be as refined or reliable? Depends, but long LONG term on a average, no, but im willing to take those Sacrifices.

To me with enough time and effort Value can be an Art form, The Koreans are proof of that, Since 1980 they have been making  Cheaper versions of mid tier products for so long that they became better at it than anyone else, including the Japanese who were the previous masters of such a Technique.

Hyundai group for example spends billions of dollars for new and innovative ways to cheap out, For instance they bought Boston dynamics, yes the robot dog people, in the next few decades they will use their skills to eventually replace all humans in car manufacturing/assembly save for qc, no one else in the industry has even contemplated actually doing that and has only been thought as a impossible dream.

As to why I value "Value" so much?

Don't know for sure, but I blame my Quaker-Freinds upbringing, historically besides the jews, Quakers are incredibly frugal.

Drives me nuts when I see some people with high end clothes stuff when I know that there better quality stuff for 3/4 the cost or less

I don't know why someone wouldn't consider KIA.

The Telluride is freaking sweet and too bad the Stinger is going away but that was a nice 4 door hatch.

They don't make many 4 door hatches.

Audi A7/S7/RS7
Buick Regal Sportback
KIA stinger.

I really think that's about it.

Factories don't need Boston Dynamics type robots.  They can utilize fixed manufacturing robots more suited for assembly line work.

Boston Dynamics robots are more suitable for replacing mechanics since a repair facility is less specialized than an assembly line.  It will cut their warranty claims cost as well.

Sorry about your future robot overlords.

My wife's last car was a KIA, right around 15,000 miles the whole AC system took a dive. Every joint was leaking. Took it in, they said we could either keep getting the coolant replaced every few days or get the entire system replaced for like $9k.

Decided we'd rather just trade it in.

They don't need Boston dynamics current type of robots yes, but they need their skills to develop revolutionary new ways of building cars with new robots that might have to be made from scratch

Simply put current ways of building cars are being questioned at every level, from raw stampings to final polishing

There are also going to use Boston dynamics for more than just Car stuff

Hyundai group's future plan is to have 25% of the company being robotics

... What?

How does Coolant and Refrigerant have anything in common?

And if it only had 15k miles why was it not warranty?

I might have my terms mixed up regarding coolant/refrigerant, I am not a car expert by any stretch.

We were told by KIA that the warranty didn't cover the AC system.

So are Ford festivas

Which most were built by Kia

I can go to Canada and buy a lightly handled Hyundai excel

I'm looking at buying a 40 + year old Fiat

It doesn't matter

The reason why you see so many old Honda's and toyoda's is just because of shear production numbers

Look at Honda sales for 1990 and then look at Hyundai, Honda sold hundreds of thousands of more vehicles in the United States compared to Hyundai that year

Meh

I’m the same way.

That’s why I owned an optima gs-x.

Own a pt-92 and stoeger cougar. Hard to beat a pre-owned 3/4 ton suburban 4x4 so I have one of those. Same with a modular home on land, have one of those also.

A good deal on a used Honda or Yamaha ATV is also hard to pass up.

I want more for the money.

Way to go comparing against Toyota, who make great cars but are slow af to add features to their models, and Nissan who barely updates anything because they simply can’t afford to.

Almost all of this options come on the competitive ford or Chevy sedans (while they’re still being made)

KIA certainly has more standard options than anyone else in the same price range.

Personally, I don't give a shit about most of them.  The only option on that list I'd want is the remote start.  So I continue to shop Honda and Toyota for practical cars.

You said it.

And as you said, things last if you take care of them. Regardless of brand/model. The difference is in the amount of care that they require.

Personally, while I respect how far Hyundai/Kia have come, out of those choices I would probably still spend the extra $1500 on the Toyota because I know it is much more likely to get to 200-300k miles without significant drama.

The Nissan would only be a consideration at a YUUGE discount.

i made that mistake when i bought our 14 grand cherokee summit.

had every option and was 50k compared to entry level ml350 or q7 at the same price.

the Jeep has been reliable but i absolutely hate driving it.  very uncomfortable for me after an hour of driving and not a fan of the 8 speed trans in it.

now looking at replacing with a used gls63 or a yukon denali, wife wants escalade but we'll see...

If you want the automotive equivalent to Taurus firearms you need to go to mainland China

Kia as a brand is like a RIA 1911 Rock Ultra with a Wilson combat mag in it.
