Currently on a sit with my daughter. Her first hunt, trying for a whitetail. Shooting a youth Savage 243 with 100gr Federal soft points.
She's excited, but cold lol. 39 degrees, which is cold for us Texans, plus she didn't listen to me about how much clothing she needed to wear because dad is stupid she's learning now. This is all part of it. |

About 150 yd shot with the .30-30 my wife gave me as a wedding gift, a 1929 model Winchester. Caped it and having it mounted, it'll be my first actual mount. I've had antlers mounted in the past but this is easily the most impressive one I've ever shot and I can't imagine topping it in my area. Hard to see in the photo but it has quite a few stickers poking out on each side. View Quote Congratulations! He’s beautiful and I’d be very proud of him. Took my daughter yesterday. She got to see a Sharp-Shinned hawk chasing a Tufted Titmouse up close. Then she got to see and hear a young buck ‘cruising’ through the woods and two fawns fed within 10 yards of us, vacuuming up acorns. She also learned to wear enough clothes. Told me she was cold at ~4pm. I removed my coat and helped her get warm until ~4:40 and had to have it back. She forgot about being cold when the fawns strolled up at 5:05. Watched them until well after dark waiting for them to leave. |

I hunted a field this morning without seeing anything, so I moved around midday to a spot in the woods. I heard a lot of movement, but no dice. On the way out, I saw two bounding through the woods. I'm in the right area, just need to seal the deal.

My tags are now claimed by my grandkids so I don't shoot much. But I love seeing their smiles when they get there deers. |

Took another slickhead with my 6 year old. Ground hunting a field edge with no blind, he did pretty good.
He was getting nervous he wouldn’t be ready for the shot and kept asking if I was going to shoot and the deer heard him and started to take off, I let out a desperate maah just like the meme posted earlier and they stopped long enough to get the shot First deer I’ve killed with a shotgun, and I’ve killed dozens Attached File |

Some good looking deer in this thread. I'll post something a little different.
Last week was opening for modern gun. I went out with my Ruger American in 7.62X39. Bullets are PPU soft point round nose. I was able to retrieve 2 bullets out of the deers I got. I pulled this out of a 5 point. It went almost all the way through but stopped in the hide on the other side. Deer only ran 30 yards before he realized his heart and lungs were obliterated. Attached File This one came out of a doe and was stopped by the ribs on the other side. She ran 40 yards before going down. Attached File |

My first hunt. Coues Whitetail in the wilderness. Had 2 unsuccessful solo scouting trips at different sites then went out for the weekend with an experienced friend. Glassed 8 does at 700-1000 yards on Friday then camped out and tried again Saturday. Saw some does getting chased by coyotes at first light. Decided to move down the trail to glass a different valley and spotted this guy 100 yards away. Put down my rifle and pack slowly then got him with a perfect double lung shot. He went down quick. 6.5 CM Hornady 143 grain ELD-X. Packing out wasn't so bad. Processed him all today. Put my favorite parts in the fridge and freezer then canned the rest. Looking forward to next season. |

Yesterday afternoon , last day of gun season, a front came thru, rainy, temp dropped, and it just felt like deer would move.
Grabbed my lucky gun, ( rem 700 model 7, xcr, in .308 ) and went hunting. No hunters anywhere, drove past a nice buck 1/2 mile from the property, looking good! 20 minutes in the stand a spike shows up, 20 minutes later ( 3.45 ) a decent buck pops out at 30 yards and i pop him, DRT.
