Got a a couple 1:48 models (a SBD Dauntless and a Mk II Spitfire) and a 1:72 Hurricane coming through the pipeline.
How do y'all do the HF antennas (also known as a wire antenna)? I have enough trouble sometimes with a 1:1 scale wire ham antenna, so I am guessing this can be a tough detail on a model. |

Some folks like to use a strand from 30ga or smaller copper wire. Some use stretched sprue. I also think fishing line would also work.

EZ Line is a flexible product used by model railroad folks to simulate telephone lines. Available in fine, medium, and large but the fine is just about perfect for 1/48 aerials.
Tip: use a CA glue (superglue) with an accelerant which turns it into a contact cement. Put a dab of CA blue on the upright, dip the EZ Line in the accelerant, and attach. EZ Line is available at most online hobby shops and even Amazon. |

Thanks for the ideas. Watched a couple videos on stretching sprue, and that EZ Line looks easy to use.
I have lots of CA around and accelerator (baking soda works in a pinch too) from my RC planes. The destructions for the Dauntless say to use thread, but that wasn't going to look quite right and be a dust magnet. |

If you want to use thread you can dip it into diluted PVA glue to get rid of the fuzziness. Beeswax/surfboard wax works too. |

I've used dental floss that you can seperate into thin strands too. You can get a really thin piece that is still strong.

I’ve read about EZ Line, but what they suggested was using some of the UV activated glue. A little more controllable.
