Interior only, 1,500 sqft, 3 beds/2 baths. Minor typical repairs like a few cracks and patching.

I was quoted $7,500 with me supplying the paint. Seems unreasonable.

ETA: The house is vacant and empty. Nothing to move.

ETA2: It was some workers (Mexicans) I generally know and trust. They brought a pro painter.

I'm getting a professional painting company bid tomorrow.

UPDATE: Got a written estimate from a professional painting company. $6.5K including paint.

Looks like my Mexicans tried to overcharge me. But in fairness, they're not pro painters and they live about 30 miles away so maybe they didn't really want it and overbid accordingly. They build great fences and retaining walls though!

I wouldn’t be telling other painters what your first quote was...

Most painters charge per sq ft of painted surface.  So sayingyounwant a 1500sq ft house painted doesnt help.

I paid a buddy 5300 to paint 3 bedrooms, a walk in closet, hall bath, and rip out carpet and install vinyl plank floor I supplied, and him in talking quarter round he supplied.  He said it would have been closer to 8500 normal pricing.  He spent 10 days.

So yeah, even with the discount I got, 7500 for just paint seem high.  What line items are on that quote?

Can you provide more details?

Current condition of the walls?

Does the quote include washing the walls to remove dust/oils?

How many different colors? Is each room a different color or are all bedrooms the same for example? White ceilings with colored walls? The more color changes and places to cut in, the more expensive because it's more time. Painting around a corner is quick, cutting in a new color at the corner adds a few minutes.

How many coats? One coat or two? Any primer coat?

Are they removing switch/outlet covers and light fixtures or painting up to them?

What type of floor protection? Drop cloths, rosin paper, or RAM board?

Standard 8-9' ceilings or are their 10'+ ceilings anywhere?

There are so many variables...we need a little more info.

Take the time off work and knock it out. That's 2-3 days work and you're all done. Especially with a vacant and empty house. Working around furniture really slows things way down.

WEN pole sander and a shop vac with dust bags and HEPA filter will help things go a lot faster.  I'd even consider getting an airless sprayer to help speed the job up.

Ridiculous that my wife wanted to hire a painter for the condo that we sold, I told her "Hell no! "

Took me to full two days  (850 sq foot) with wall and trims.

get a paint gun and blast it away ! For the trims, just buy a good brush, not cheap ones

$7,500 around here would be reasonable bid. I paint a 6-12 houses a year.

Also is the house a single story or two story. Any real high ceilings?

Does that include bathrooms and kitchen?

Neighbor owned 10 unit garden apartment.
Mostly built in run up to WW2 for housing.
Mostly one bedrooms per building, a couple two bedrooms.

We would paint the interior in them with about five guys in a
single night. between tenants.
Start washing everything around Noon after the tenant vacated.
Lots of big blowers to speed thing along.
Quick inspection of plaster walls, EasySand20 for anything that needed repair.
Start painting around midnight, done by 7:00 AM the next day.

Blowers help with drying paint also.
And a little bit of central heat for that unit if available.
We had some decent size portable heaters if it was summer and building heat (boiler) was not turned on.

Those building all had coal heater converted to NG.
Window units for cooling.
