Surely there were janitors, cooks, etc. who were just doing a job on that ship, with no love of the Empire.

Far less than thr empire would have killed using the deathstar.

I once calculated the square foot of the original Death Star with a number of assumptions (20'/level, the the inner portion was all reactor. etc. etc). I forget the number but it was roughly the size of West Virginia in area i.e. +24k square miles.
I seem to recall around the same time, that there was 30 million people on board at the time it got blowed up. Prolly got that number off one of those SW nerd sites. |

Was every cook and other support person in the Wehrmacht technically combatants during WWII? On a battleship such as the Bismark, would a compressor repair guy who worked in the boiler room end up in a POW camp? There's your answer. If it were under construction like the second Death Star was, there were probably quite a few outside contractors onboard. By contract they are bound to work for the Empire, so I would consider then combatants.
BTW I met a survivor of the Bismark at a gun show who happened to be a compressor repair guy. http://www.kbismarck.com/crew/interview-brzonca.html |

Zero. It's an amusing story. LOL

The Empire did nothing wrong.

In a time of universal deceit, truth-telling is a revolutionary act.

Zero. The moment it fired a weapon and destroyed a planet it became a legitimate military asset belonging to a belligerant nation and it as well as all of it's occupants became legitimate military targets. Kinda like sinking a hostile warship; just because the guy didnt pull a trigger or give orders doens't mean he has any special protections.

People living on an offensive military weapon are not innocents in any sense of the word. They may not be combatants but they make the thing work and are obviously in harms way. |

We didn’t see it in film, but if the Empire is anything like the American modern military on an established base, then all food, laundry, trash, haircuts, PX and such are taken care of by civilian employees. Surely there’s a shop with a guy putting custom padding in stormtrooper armor, someone making Alderan cruise jackets, and an Anthony’s Pizza.

And they say Americans have short memory for history.
Remember the billions on Alderaan? The planet that the Deathstar had just blown up? Destruction of the Deathstar was necessary and justified. If you must lament the few innocents (I’m thinking prisoners) build them a monument. Then your greatgrandchilren can pull down the monument while they vote in the next emperor type because of new republic wage inequality policies. |

Look,.. You knew when you filled out the application that you were taking a job on a thing called the "death star".
I mean what did you expect would be taking place? |

It was built by "Slave Labor " tens of thousands of Wookies and Ewoks.

Innocents get blown up too. How many? Doesn't matter. |

On another note, ever wondered if the Death Star was insured? I mean it must have since they keep rebuilding it though I'm surprised the policy doesn't have a stipulation like no external exhaust vents to the core or undefended thermal oscillators on the surface or exposed huge ass canons on star destroyers that explode when shot.

View Quote I'm pretty sure the Empire was self-insured. Think about it; they're the fucking Empire. If something breaks they'll just throw star destroyers at it until it's fixed. |

Here’s an example from a butterfly, an example that it can be happy on a hard rock. An example that it can lie on this unsweetened stone, friendlessly and all alone. Now let my bed. I do not care.

Well we know he is a murderer and thief. Luke Skywalker? He fights his own father and fools around with his own sister. Pretty sure the force has killed way more people than the Empire. You get the point. |

Like it or not, the janitor was providing labor support for the enemy, just like the combatants. There are janitors, cooks, mechanics, etc. on every warship, "just doing a job". How many "innocent people" died on the Bismarck? |
