Lowers are aluminum.

Beer cans are aluminum.

How many beer cans would you need to make a lower?

I ask, because I have beer cans. Like, a lot!

guncraft101 had a series of videos doing this.

Got pulled from youtube, but he still has them up in a couple other places.

If we say a lower is 8.5 ounces, and a can is half an ounce, thats 17 cans. But youd need to account for oxidation layer, the plastic liner, and the regions that are needed to be milled out. So, maybe a 12 ounce blank, if you are going to cast it. A 30 pack should be good to go. Don't spill the melted material.

Also, to answer your question, and I know it sounds stupid easy:

Weigh a lower, then weigh ten cans, do math.

I know, I know.  You want me to do that.  But I ain't gonna.

Well they have polymer lowers, so I'm going with yes.  Not forged 7075 T6, but strong enough.

There's a guy in Australia that I watch on youtube that melts a lot of metal.  LOTS of metal.  He's entertaining.  This answer doesn't have a lot to do with the question at hand, but it can give you an idea of how to melt and cast different metals.   He has a great many videos.

So, if you’re drinking shitty beer from a can, will you then have a shitty lower? “Good Beer Comes In A Bottle Master Race” checking in.

I somehow doubt beer cans are made from 7075 Aluminum.

If you like heavier, more fragile packaging, that promotes skunking, then sure.

Worked for a man that melted a couple of 55gal drums of crushed pop cans.  This was poured into a welding rod tin as a mold (about 8"x8"x18").

This "billet" was cut and machined into a small right angle gearbox to go in a ww2 era plane.

About a week later the lube the gearbox was filled with had all run out of the porous cast material.

Probably spent $5000 in 1985 dollars to avoid buying a $10 piece of billet 6061.
