I had a puddle of water on my tonneau  cover. The temps. went down into the upper teens at night. In the morning I found this on the truck. The truck is parked where there is nothing over it so nothing could have dripped. I've seen weird thing with freezing water but how does something grow like this ?

My theory is the outer layer froze first and the water under it swol up through it and froze as it rose. Really cool image btw

Ice spike

Found this after one grew on my bourbon ice cube tray a few years ago.

You have no idea how lucky you are. That's an ice broad-head, and the shaft already melted.

Someone wants you dead, bruh. Watch your back.

Most likely a ninja assassin.  Sorry OP.  Not much you can do but wait for death.

I found one of those in an ice cube tray years ago, and looked it up online to see what the hell caused it.  I've never had one since.  It looked like the water "tube" creature from "The Abyss" tried to form and was frozen.

I think the cold temperature must have been involved, somehow.

Wiki article has several photos of this fairly rare phenomenon.
Also a scientific explanation that uses big words.

As it freezes, it squeezes.
