The concept is known as modal popup. WP has many plugins that will facilitate that. You'll want one that activates on click and not on hover to get the exact effect.

Not as clean as the example you posted, but...
I'm already using Simple Lightbox: https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-lightbox/ Edit the CAPTION for the picture you want to use with the text you want. If you want the "copyright line" at the bottom, put that in the DESCRIPTION for the picture. Link the name to the picture file. The popup with have the picture and the caption text. |
