Here’s the scenario: With a 16” 5.56 AR and ordinary 55-62gr FMJ somehow you’re in a scenario where you fire at a bad guy from five feet away. Except instead of shooting center mass, the bad guy is either laying down or jumping over you. Bullet enters at the target’s taint and travels parallel to the spine avoiding most bones. In other words the bullet is traveling the longest path through a man’s torso.
How far will it go? What would it take to punch through the skull on the other side? |

about the same as ballistic gel... its set up for similar consistency as human flesh...

62 grain probably 20", 55 grain 18" is my guess. Important question tho, collateral damage is a real thing

This is so far from a Tech question, I would not know which section to put it in.

If that bullet is messing with his taint, I'd say it make it all the way to 3rd base.

Acrobats been fucking with you again, OP? You're wise to take precautions, they can be a rough crowd.

Lol. And it’s his second post. Whose using their burner account?

Had a doe do a quick turn on me and ended up shooting it from to back very near the area in question. It bounced off the spine and lodged under the hide a few inches forward of the hear/lungs. It may have went straight through if it didnt bounce off the spine but it severed the spinal cord and dropped it straight down. Fwiw.

Taint never gonna reach the skull.
Bullet yaw and all that. |

I love how guys in the tech forums get a taste of GD and recoil in horror and disgust.

Wow, recently banned or just decided to burn an old troll account?

Bullet enters taint, and exists left nipple. Every single time.

View Quote It will travel ~ 16", but will likely fragment and only a portion of the bullet will reach that distance. So it will likely stop somewhere in the upper abdominal cavity (average adult male), depending on the size of the person. |

I don't know, but since this is in GD: a 7mm Remington Magnum on the same axis will puff up a fat ass marauding beagle
in a millisecond and leave the face hanging off the other end |

We actually had something pretty close to this happen when I was in Iraq in 2003-2004. One of our platoons got in a firefight, and one of the opposition got shot right up the asshole. 1 in a million shot for sure. Not sure how far it went, but needless to say, the guy didn’t survive.

Great second post, look forward to your contributions to the site.
