The M14 holds a special place in history as one of the most recognizable guns ever made. This episode of History of an Icon @chopinbloc covers a brief history of the development and use of this iconic rifle.

Holy shit so much in this video is wrong.

Edit: I realize now that it is April Fools but you guys don't have that a real punch line so someone will take this as real.

I really want a M1A w/ wood stock.  I think the prices have come down quite a bit.  The problem is I also want a LWRC REPR, KAC SR25, LMT 308, Ruger RPR in .300WM, etc etc

An "icon"?

It was an abject failure.

Fact:  John Garand did not like the White gas piston system.

Do we have any Kashyyyk Forest vets to attest to the validity of this video?

I agree except on two points:

1) Many Guard units DID have M21's for a LONG time after the M24 was introduced; a couple of them long enough for them to bring their "toys" to the sandbox post-9/11

2) Anyone who complains about the M14 wandering zero/accuracy issues THEN claims the FAL has superior accuracy, in my experience, 1) has a real "honey" of a FAL, or 2) needs to have their eyes checked.  Definitely not the best DMR of all time, but I have seen an M14 zeroed/tuned by a shooter who knew what they were doing shoot around 1.5 MOA with very little fiddling around (in a combat zone). the FAL, not so much.

The M14 was birthed by the past war, created for a wrongly-perceived present, and blind to the future.

They're exactly the same. But the Mini-14 is the civilian version so it doesn't have a bayonet.

Should have adopted the AR10 or the FAL.

Thanks OP. Its day in the sun has for the most part passed, but they're still in use in some countries. Somebody recently posted pics of PI soldiers with them.

It's the first centerfire rifle I ever shot and they are still a favorite of mine.

I've never been one swayed by the "look" of a firearm...if it goes bang when asked was always my judgement criteria, but I always thought the M-14 was just one cool ass looking weapon.  I even got to shoot one once years ago and it even had the ATF stamped happy switch.

Adopted in 1957, production canceled in 1964, unable to fullfill its intended purpose as the primary infantry small arm-  not really much of a success story.

Great rifles, not $1,650 great.

Don’t make it into something it’s not.

Basically, look at the M-14 the same as a improved M1 Garand and you will be fine.
Link Posted: 4/1/2020 2:47:55 PM EDT
A rifle I never had a desire to own. It’s not really good at anything.
