I have.
Around 1960 with my grandfather. Two speeds, stopped and WFO. I think it had push button shift but I'm not entirely sure. |

I believe I did back around the same time. Rambler station wagon too.

I have. The car of choice in my hood growing up was an old, cheap, ratted out shit box. My Dad had one, I’m think he paid like $35.00 for it used,10 years old, and with some whiskey marks.

Those engines screamed, Fire Flite, Fire Dome whatever, been a while, and typewriter buttons on the dash you were rollin' !

[#12]
Yup grandpa had one when I was little.
I want a big late 40s DeSoto Suburban, lifted with 4 wheel drive. |
|
[#13]
Yes, I'm old... but I still own a 66 Chevelle that will run 10 secs if I don't detune it.
|
|
[#14]
Yes, my Mom had a DeSoto wagon ( push button transmission) when I was little. Red and cream, and I remember her putting in a ditch on a snowy day.
|
|
[#15]
Yes OP. Have you ever ridden in a Nash Statesman with dual carbs? My grandpa had one.
Wish I had it today. Attached File |

The coach in middle school accused the class of fucking around like we're in the backseat of the old man's DeSoto. One dumbass raised his hand and asked what a DeSoto is. That's as close as I've been.

my father bought a 57 desoto firedome 2dr when i was a kid... had a 330 sumthin hemi... push button auto transmission and an auto seek am radio that actually worked. Car was cool.

[#21]
Yes. Neighbor had one; I believe it was a slightly-upscale Dodge or downscale Chrysler.
|
|
[#22]
I’ve never sat in one but I found a business card for a Desoto salesman in an old book I inherited from my grandpa.
I also used to live in a town named Desoto. Attached File |

In the 50's & 60's my Grandfather owned 3 used car lots
I'm sure I rode in, maybe even drove a DeSoto He let me drive cars around the lot before I was in my teens |
|
[#24]
Yep. I had one. 1941 with Fluid Drive. Restored sometime in the 70s and had it for short while during 80s. Even had a wolf whistle for horn.
|
|
[#25]
yep, also owned a Packard and a Studebaker. Truth- and a Nash Rambler too
|
|
[#26]
Maybe, who knows?
I'm talking about when I was little...the only cars I knew for sure were VW's. |
|
[#27]
Caught a ride in South Dakota with two girls in a light blue DeSoto.
One's name was Jane. The other was plain, but they both had racing motors. Delbert McClinton |
|
[#28]
Yep. Owned a 48 DeSoto Suburban in high School.
Crazy enough, we used to road race in an unfinished housing development. Herding that beast around corners was a gas. |

Worked on one from tha 30's as a mechanic. Had a flat head straight six. Neat car.
|
|
[#32]
One of my running buddies father had one. A 48 Firedome. Got to drive it a couple of times. It was a cool car. Circa 1968-1985.

I almost bought a 1958 twenty years ago.Tail fins made Cadillac look small. Could possibly have fit a refrigerator in the trunk. Had a 383 and push button automatic on the dash. It had potential.
I called my body man to discuss the issues I saw and he said nobody makes quarterpanels for it. Also needed floors, rocker panels, etc. He’d have to custom make so much, the bodywork would’ve cost $50k. |
|
[#36]
Dad had a 56. The back window got busted and no replacement was available. I think my brother still has it in a shed.
|
|
[#37]
I owned a Fire Flite (sp?) briefly.
Had serious body rot issues, and I had no time or experience to fix it. Wish I still had it though, the interior and engine were in great shape. |

View Quote 1970, my father bought a 49 DeSoto that was in a barn from some farmer for $50. Hauled it home and after a few weeks had it running like a top. Even got the clock in it going. Sold it to guy in Portland for $500. it was sweet driving it around the block. Ed |

Yes. Mid 70s. Old lady passed away and her heirs sold her car. Local young guy bought it, I cruised around town a few times with him.
Kind of a two tone green, weird controls as I remember. Also curb feelers. |

Oh hell yeah.. when I was a kid my best friends dad had a '55 De Soto Firedome - it was a beast.

My grandparents neighbor had one......it looked like something the Politburo rode around in, but it was a cool car
|
|
[#45]
Yes, I have. My Dad was a car collector. He's had DeSotos, Edsels, and Hudsons. I favorite was the Hudsons.
|
|
[#46]
I believe I have. Was the gas cap hidden behind the drivers side brake light.

It tells you something about the USSR that their idea of the ultimate in automotive luxury was a tarted-up Dodge. |

no but I have a 55 desoto firedome engine waiting to go in my model A.

I've ridden in a 1929 Olds, several 1960s Studebakers, and a big assed Checker Imperial.
