We have arranged for complimentary dinner and drinks for those traveling to Richmond VA for the rally on January 20th, but need to know how many will attend. The venue is within 2 blocks of the rally location, and will be held 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday the 19th. This thread is not to get a list of names, but merely a headcount. Please respond to the poll.

Formal location announcement

All - I'm excited to see you at the Capital Ale House in downtown Richmond Sunday evening from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The address is 623 E. Main Street, Richmond, VA 23219

Initial menu for the event:

Appetizers:
Calamari x 2
Giant Bavarian Pretzel x 8
Spinach, crab & shrimp dip x 2
Charcuterie station
Artisanal cheese board

Entrees:
Crispy Chicken Wings: barbeque AND HOT Buffalo.
Mini Roast Beef Sandwiches
Mini Turkey Sandwiches
Country Ham Biscuits
House Mini Cheeseburger
Pulled Port BBQ

Sides:
Homestyle Mac-N-Cheese Platter (x2)
Southern Fried Pickles
Crispy Fried Green Beans (x2)
Pasta Salad (x2)
French Fries (x2)

Desert Station (x2)

There was a slight mixup on the schedule, and while our main event will be held in the music hall - we can't move to the music hall until 6 p.m. In the meantime, we'll be located in a smaller downstairs meeting area. We'll be serving appetizers with a open bar in the downstairs room, and then be serving the full menu in the music hall at 6 p.m. We will have two bars in the downstairs room, and two bars in the music hall. Beer, wine, sodas and water will be served at each. The restaurant bar will have mixed drinks if you find yourself inclined. You will need to pay for those yourselves.

Expect some people to speak, and plan to take some gear home with you at the end of the night. I look forward to seeing you all in 48 hours!

I voted yes, but as much as I'd like to shake everyone's hand and sit down for a meal, if we end up overwhelming a restaurant and it gets logistically difficult, we may not all be able to pile into one place.

It's a heckuva offer, though.

An entire restaurant is being rented. The wing that holds 350 had already been booked. The question is whether we need additional space. We're not going to overwhelm anything. Knowing we need more room in advance would be a great problem to have

According to this VCDL page places where concealed carry is prohibited include:

Restaurants & clubs -- concealed carry prohibited while consuming alcoholic beverages (§18.2-308.012)

First, this is a pre-game dinner to talk, get to know each other, and share a little information about the day ahead. While I don't want to boss anyone around, there will be plenty of time to waddle around with slung rifles the next day. I'd really rather dinner be a bit more "normal people having dinner." If nothing else, please be aware that the restaurant staff at this location are probably not on our side of this debate. Do you really want you food spit in (or worse)? I would rather this be a bit low key if that works. We have the entire day on Monday to make our voices heard.

With that said, having 250+ of us in one place at one time presents some concerns about security. Note that anyone can carry concealed if they're not consuming alcohol, and I suspect there will be a number of us that fall in to that category. At the risk of getting too serious, I'm thinking 4 volunteers on 30 minute shifts casually standing near the door and keeping an eye on things might not be a bad idea.

Perfect! This is actually why I think dinner the night before will be important. We need to form up small groups and understand a bit more about how things will work on Monday. We won't have much success organizing on game day. In fact, I suspect our biggest challenges may begin before we even get there, so grouping up the night before and tackling logistics will be key.
