How this gun didn't blow up is beyond me.

Looks like they ran through the whole cylinder.

In a 500 magnum no less.
It's amazing that didn't kaboom in a spectacular fashion.

How would you not notice that was happening after a couple rounds?

Out of a 500? Impressive.

Edit: if they were squibs then I'm willing to bet the owner was doing reloads for lower velocities/recoil impulse. That's why it probably didn't blow up.

THAT is impressive!

I wonder what the guy thought when he saw that he wasn't hitting the target?

I know, shoot again!

Ho lee shit.

I have had 1 squib in my 20 years of shooting and I knew something was wrong instantly. The gun felt and sounded different when it happened.

That guy must have completely zoned out or something.

Patsy reloads so he could shoot his .500 like a boss without flinching like a bitch?

Cylinder gap vents pressure yo!
It would only blow if the obstructed barrel prevented the bullet from leaving the cylinder.
I am surprised it's not ringed though.

Squibs are usually really obvious

Last time I was shooting with a friend who brought some CCI quiet .22lr to the range.
Work exceptionally well with his suppressed 16" carbine, I fart louder than that rifle with those loads.

I loaded a few rounds in my CZ 455 Ultralux with the 28.5" barrel.
Round never made it out of the barrel. It went "putz" but no sound of the round hitting the backstop.
I pulled the bolt, looked down the barrel & it was black.
Pushed it out with a cleaning rod easy peasy.
Not even close to what is posted in the OP but it was a great reminder to listen when you shoot.
It was my 1st squib, & the 2nd that happened on my range. Caught both before any appendages were blown off.

Those are rookie numbers. I had a shooter put 26 air rifle pellets in, but none came out!!!  He is a graduate student though.

He beat the older record  of 17 pellets

I should have had a squib in 44 mag once but the crimp kept the bullet in the case.  No powder, primer only.  Definitely sounded wrong.

I reload some mouse fart loads for my J frame, I shot them from my Marlin 357 lever and the report was so subtle I checked the barrel for a squib.

You'd think like a thousand times more obvious with .500 magnum.

I did that with a 22 revolver one time. "Missed my target three times before I walked up on it and missed again. Checked the gun and all the bullets were lodged behind a barrel obstruction.

What's the story behind it?

How were they extracted?  Hydraulic pressure using grease?

How is the barrel?  Specifically, is there a bulge?

Looks like he would have learned after the first time that he didn't have to do that.

Yeah, details would be interesting, instead of just the smith merely posting the usual “look at what our dumbass customer did”.
