I've always been a Timex Shock guy but they don't last more than 4 years tops. The bands don't last more than a year and replacement bands aren't available.  So I thought I'd give Casio G-Shocks a go.

I want it to be black/black out, it can have some dark grey hardware but I prefer black, no flash. I'd like it to be under $150 but be a tough looking watch. I'd like it to display time both digital and analog.

Thanks

Also I'm seeing they have some with a solar charging/maintaining feature. Atomic would be benifical also. Thoughts?

I had a Casio G-Shock for a time, not sure where it is now since I don't wear a watch anymore.  I liked it fine, however, the atomic clock synchronization didn't work well; during the spring/fall time changes it always took a couple, to several, days to sync up.  You can move it up/back manually.  If you live closer to the radio signal source (Denver, I think) maybe it'll work better for you.

Are you spying on me, I was just looking on Amazon at the same watches about the time you made this thread.

I found one that was about 130 with compass and thermometer.  Not sure I need the fancy gizmos. I've been wearing a Timex Shock for a few years now and am ready to upgrade.

Ha ha, I have about 10 in my Amazon cart. Now to decide which one I want. I like the solar feature, since the regular G-Shocks say only a 2 year battery life. Atomic is not so important. Analog and digital time display is a feature I want.

If you type in black G Shock watches for men in Amazon, it will pull up a plethora of analog-digital G Shocks.

Prices range from $50 and up depending on the model. Maybe this $75 Casio piques your interest.

Or this one.

Amazon Product
  • Shock Resistant, Magnetic Resistant, 200 Meter Water Resistant
  • Auto LED Light with Afterglow, World Time, 4 Daily Alarms and 1 Snooze Alarm, Hourly Time Signal. 1/1000 Second Stopwatch
  • Countdown Timer, Full Auto-Calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2099)

Or this one.

Amazon Product
  • Shock Resistant & 200 Meter Water Resistant
  • 1/1000th Second Stopwatch with Speed Indicator
  • Anti-Magnetic Structure & Auto LED Light with Afterglow

There are a ton more options on Amazon.

I spilled prodiamine on my G-Shock while filling a 40 gallon sprayer. Prodiamine is a pre-emergent for weeds. It stinks and it binds with plastic.

I washed it off immediately, got myself cleaned up. Didn't hurt the watch but I never could get that smell out of the watch. Bought a new one off Amazon for $40. Threw the other one in a junk basket.

Deet will also eat away at the plastic. So be aware when you go camping, hiking, fishing, etc.

I wanted to love my g shocks but the lack of illumination at night was a big letdown. The hands on the cheaper mudmaster would stay lit up for a few minutes at most. I’ve heard the higher end mudmaster is better but I’m reluctant to spend that much just to find out it isn’t.

They work great on my GA200, but I'll probably end up doing the Mil-shock mod on the 5610
