They should build a Costco there. Gas is usually cheaper at Costco.

You should have your state drill for more oil

There are three refineries in AK. It’s 20% the size of the L48.  Drilling isn’t the issue.

Time for the natives to drill and refine their own oil.

I’ve never seen a community with so many jobs open and so many unwilling to work in Anchorage.

People are saying Mid Town Carrs/Safeway is going to shut down because they can’t hire enough people to run the store.

And yes they are out of formula as well.

It’s when, this time of year all the sports cars come out of the garage.

Let’s see when the supermarkets start closing.

The refineries are tiny and cannot support all of Alaska.

There are small native drilling rigs but the cost to build refineries is too big.

They sure are proud of the local hotel damn.

http://www.hillsonthekuskokwim.com/Sale-Info.html

Rare opportunity to own a turnkey, profitable property in beautiful Sleetmute, AK. Located on the Kuskokwim River, this property is currently functioning as the economic hub for the region providing fuel, a general store, and lodge accommodations for the village. Seller intends to include in the sale a Cessna 206, boats, motors, snowmachines, four-wheelers, case dozer/backhoe and skid-steer.

Established for over 30 years, this lodge, general store, lumber mill, and fuel distribution (Cessna 206) service is a lucrative operation located in southwest Alaska on the beautiful Kuskokwim River. It is a successful family business with significant growth potential located in a federally designated opportunity zone which offers substantial incentives to anyone investing in this region.

The business grosses $735,000 per year, clearing $176,400 per year in owners' benefit and would be ideal for someone who has a pilots’ license and/or an Alaska State guide license or who can acquire both or either. The original family was a bush pilot/husband and teacher/wife combination. Retirement is the cause for sale but if a family were to buy the operation, they could eliminate approximately $75k in employee wages associated with manning the general store. Additionally, the property is situated in a qualified opportunity zone, which means no capital gains tax when you sell it.

One of the greatest aspects of this opportunity is that the owner and operator has offered to show you the ropes to ensure success as this business is passed from one family to the next. His many years of experience and knowledge about this area and this specific property will be invaluable!

• Guest/Fishing Lodge on the Kuskokwim River
• 30,000 Gallon Fuel Farm (fuel distribution)
• On-Site Lucas Sawmill
• Greenhouse & Garden
• Cessna 206 Optionally Included
• Boats, Motors, & Snowmachines Included
• Four-Wheelers Included

IIRC the original fuel for a diesel engine was corn oil, might work with other oils as well.

They note climate in as an issue but then say:

“The hefty fuel costs made for a difficult few months in Noatak, which had an exceptionally cold winter this year.”

Hmmm. Not adding up.

Cold winters seem to be the norm in AK.

Sleetmute is not a bad village.
Gets cold up there.

Mouth of the Johnson River during pike fishing season can get crowded.
Hundreds of people.

Best catch I saw was over 200 pike by one person.

Chopping through ice over 5ft thick at times can be rough.

There are times it just gets cold for months at a time during winter.
They can see -50f to -70f with winds easy.

Wrong.
I'm sure everyone thought the same before fuel was 5, 6, or $7.

If stuff freezes up two weeks early, or thaws two weeks later, stuff like that will impact scheduling, supply stocks, etc.  Throw in temperatures below the average deviation from normal, and now that's pressure on the demand side.  And so forth.
