We used to have a phone number. Then we would open a case online and call. Next was open a case and they would call you. Now, open a case and you'll get an (online) update in a few days. Decisions, decisions. Built out a new 5500 chassis online as similar to my current one as I could. 70k vs the ~56k I paid in 2018. Body/crane/compressor jumped from ~75k to 105k.
im going to order a chassis before year end. I'm still unsure if I want to go through the trouble of swapping my current body/crane over to a new chassis or just buying new and selling it. Other than mileage it's in good shape. Could probably get 90k for it now, hopefully at least 80 by end of this year beginning of next. Not sure what the year holds. |

Anybody else ever trail fix a FUBAR radiator?
Was down in Baja California and a guy in our group with a Dodge 6.7 diesel went full send + a bit more. His fan ate part of his shroud and a chunk of fan blade broke off, gouging a couple big ass holes into the rad and dumping the whole cooling system on the sand. We yanked the rad out, cleaned out fins, cut off the ends of the damaged tubes, and rolled and crimped them (all 8 damaged tubes, so 16 crimps). He drove that thing another $6-700 miles of wheeeling and highway driving, no further issues. I guess the shop he took it to was quite shocked at the carnage and the “fix”. |

Apparently, all of the C18s now have updated blocks, maybe liners, and fire-ringed head gaskets to fix the problem. They may have done something to the heads too but I can't remember right now. Yesterday was a bitch of a day. The top transmission cooler “hose hump” blew on a 740C, and I swear to god, I fought all day, because I replaced both. The top one went on slicker’n snot, the bottom one took 4 hours.
I ended up removing the rings closest to each end, and now have two questions. Those hoses already blow 3-4 times a year on our trucks. How much did I shorten the life by taking those rings off? Is there an aftermarket hose of that size that would last longer *and* be easier to install? |
