Title says most of it . Too many bad reviews for food saver type products and they need special bags . I want vac I can use for sous vide , and freezing portions for 1 - 2 people out of family packs type deals from the grocer . No whole briskets , hams ,or roasts would be involved . Thanks you for your experience with what I am looking for . Budget would be around maybe $750 or less . Thank you in advance .

I have a vacmaster vp215.

Will last your lifetime.

You’re going to need up the budget a little though.

Works much better than the kind that suck out the air, can easily seal meat sauce, chili, soup, stew , etc.

Oh , I like that one . Thanks.

What are these doing exactly? Someone explain it to me like I'm 9. Please and thank you.

You put the entire bag into a vacuum chamber with the heat sealing strip holding the open end of the bag. Close it and the vacuum removes all the air from the chamber. Because the air is being removed both from inside and outside the bag at the same time liquids are not sucked out of the bag. After vacuum is applied and the bag is sealed air is let back into the chamber and the bag squishes down tightly around the food be it solid or liquid.

This all means the seal area isn't fouled by liquids, you can vac seal liquids and they stay in the bag, and you don't need the special bags with the vacuum channels/ridges, smooth bags (significantly cheaper) work well.

I have a Weston pro 2300, in two years now I've had to replace the electrical heat bar twice.  My next will be a chamber vacuum.

I have the Avid Armour GS53 with an oil pump. It has paid for its self many times over!

Homemade bone broth, sealed without fluid in seal. Chili, sealed in pre portioned size.
Fresh caught fish, not worried about moisture ruining my seal!

I buy burger on sale, package in 1 pound packages. Press flat after sealing and they freeze fast and defrost faster when needed. The consistent size helps with freezer organizing

Wait for sales and can get near your price range. I can but 1000 bags for what Costco charges for a box of the rolled vacuum sealer bags

I have both, traditional vacuum sealer with ridged bags and the Avid Armour chamber vac. I haven’t used my traditional vacuum sealer since the Avid arrived

LEM vac max pro. You're welcome.

Don't cut corners and buy a vacuum sealer. Go straight to a chamber vac.  You know how a vacuum sealer sucks all the juices into the workings of your machine. Chamber vac doesn't do that. You can seal water if you want. We use ours for both food and ammo.

I just got the Anova chamber vac. Bigger would have been nice but the price was right.

My Foodsaver is still going strong after 10 years. Don't see a need to buy anything more expensive.

I buy the vacuum seal rolls off of Amazon. Cut to length and seal one end before putting food in. Cheap and easy.

I have the VP230 and I agree, this will last a lifetime.

I have gone through 4 or so of the home Food saver types and this is by far the way to go.

I also got a separate sealer bar to make bags from rolls of regular food saver bags and to be able to cut the non vented types of bags down so as not to waste as much space in the freezer or the bags themselves.

If you have ever cut and sealed bags with a Foodsaver you know after a few the light starts blinking as you have over heated the seal bar and can't do anything until it cools down, not with this thing, it just asks for more bags to seal and it does a double seal which never fails unlike the small Foodsaver units.

Costco has a Lem or Vacmaster for $600 IIRC. I keep hoping to catch it on sale or clearance. I think is it online order only but free delivery to home or store. YMMV

I've got an Avid Armor USV32 I picked up just over a year ago. They had a couple units on open box sale and I got one.

I've used it a decent amount, not heavy. A couple months ago, when it was still under 1 year warranty, I noticed it started not pulling as hard a vacuum. Saw my sous vide bags looked a little loose and were sometimes floating.

A burst of work kept me busy from digging into it and getting in touch with them until just after my warranty was up. After troubleshooting it with them, they determined there was an issue with the pump. At first they wanted me to send it back on my dime but when I was able to show (through some conversation with a friend that has the same unit) the problems started before the warranty was up, they agreed to repair it under warranty.

They still have it. It's been about 2 weeks. They said to expect 2-3 weeks turnaround.

When it worked, it worked excellently and did a much better job than my old Food Saver and, their customer service was helpful and responsive but, I'd be lying if I said the pump issue has given me a slight doubt about them. Then again, it was an open box sale item, and even though it looked new, who knows.

No, that is just a sealer bar.  I have a similar one (impulse sealer) that came with my freeze dryer.

Using a Foodsaver too. Been using it since 2002. Mom was using it since 1998. We buy the quart and gallon bags off Amazon.

Not a vacuum chamber but it’s been doing good for us.

Another vote for the vp203 .

This - the Costco Lem is the way to go and within your budget. Believe I paid around $600 for mine and it's been great.
