So Flite Test is having their annual Flite Fest event this weeken in Malvern OH.   Going on now already, lots of people camp there for the week ends Sunday June 25
I plan to go Sunday.   Weather should be nice but event winding down.   Mostly I intend to get a couple of John Overstreets foam jet models.   And maybe there will be something interesting to see flying around - most of the models there are “ different” and not scale like planes which is my preference
Didn’t see it discussed but it may be in driving distance for some of you here.

I am jealous, my son is super annoyed we didn't make it this year.

Tell Josh we need some of his airplanes for the slope.

Got there just in to to at least see this
Short clip of Flite Fest 2023 final combat 6/25

I need to try to go there friday next year.   Maybe by then the crazy Ike dog will settle down for drives.

But at least I got a couple new (to me, theyve been out for awhike) master series kits by john overstreet.   Got an F-4, F-18, and a Beech 18.  Not sure if he was there this year.   The new releases by him have slowed down, it seems.  Hope they havent parted ways

Both my boys had an awesome time, I spent WAY too much money, and my wife enjoyed herself too. Next year she wants to volunteer.

It was interesting to meet the crew, they’re very genuine and caring folks. Josh really buys what he’s selling and each time my kids went up to him he always made them feel important.

We’ve already decided to show up next year.

Looks like fun to camp there, well maybe not with hot humid nights and thunderstorms unless you have a camper or RV and AC

Looks like John Overstreet was there (per his FB)  and I missed too much only showing up late Sunday.  But no new master series releases.   Little bummed with that.

Looks like a lot of fun. The videos I have seen are unreal where they have everyone flying around at once.

Blows my old 72 MHz mind, I can't imagine ever using that crap again and having to worry about getting "shot down".

I have a couple planes built from their plans. Maybe some day when the kid is older we'll have to go.

My youngest is 4 and he really enjoyed their STEM builds and walking through the build tents.  Honestly, my wife and I thought we would have had the shits of the place by the second day but all four days were an absolute blast.

The "combat" was definitely the star of the show.

I can only imagine what a zillion models in the sky at once sounds like...

A glorious calamity interrupted by the one whacko who figured out how to wire a car horn to his airplane.

That is pretty funny. "That guy", one in every group.

I left the hobby to fly and wrench on 1:1 stuff nearly 20 years ago.

Came back in last year, mostly into soaring.

While it is sad to not have a real LHS any more nor aisles of kits and parts, the direction the hobby has gone in my absence largely pleases me. The Flite Test thing is terrific, very irreverent and much more accessible than the way the hobby was when I was a yute.

I am shocked how much more affordable most everything is. A terrific computer radio is under $200, a pile of decent servos for $20... My flight sim is freeware and better than 2nd gen RealFlight. I could go on and on.

That was crazy.
I thought at first it was someone's car alarm going off
I didn't think all the planes were that loud.  They are all just electrics, most of them small

Watched that last night. And several of his other videos. Good stuff. The plane with the horn is in that video, you can hear it.

The horn plane, is that supposed to be like the WW2 German Stuka dive bombers with the sirens?

Calamity in the sense of all the airborne chaos. It was fun to hear the crowd when two aircraft made that slapping noise as they collided.

The whole event is still a main topic of conversation in our house. My wife even wants to volunteer next year.

No, he was just interested in making noise and entertain the crowd.
