If you are going to shoot the old military rifles really need to reload. I've had both Japanese and British out this year. Shoot them at around 90% load. Both use same bullet and same load.

Same here. Especially the way a several of the online dealers were selling large quantities of No4's and SMLE's not that long ago. Been in the hunt for some .303 150gr SP's for a while myself. Kicking myself for not keeping all the brass I had a couple of years ago.

As others have mentioned, I'd reload the 7.7 using cut down .30-06. I did the same for 7.92 Mauser when good surplus was unavailable.
For the same reason, I reload .303. Back when 7.62x54r surplus was dirt cheap I used it for powder and projectiles to reload .303. |

You .32 Rimfire guys:
- it’s difficult but if you reload, it’s possible to finagle Fiocci 9mm rimfire into something close to .32 rimfire (but you’ll need to replace the smokeless with an appropriate black powder charge). |

Fyi it is easy the convert 9mm largo to 9mm NATO
I made a spacer to make to chamber length to 19mm from 23mm. It is steel ring cut from steel 9mm NATO shell and polished, to be 4.00mm. Pressed it into a cleaned chamber and it gives the 9x19 shell a solid support for the case mouth to rest on. Ring |

Quoted: 7.7 Arisaka was a pain in the ass to find and expensive even before the current craziness. You may have better luck finding it at local shows than online (at least, I used to). Oddly, Prvi makes brass for it but has never sold loaded ammo. If you're going to shoot a decent amount of old surplus calibers like this it's worth considering reloading. View Quote This is True. I felt like I got lucky early last year and found a few boxes 7.7x58 at Grafs and Sons. I have since grabbed some dies and bullets and have been saving my brass. Privi still makes .303 British and I see it for sale every now and then but it is not necessarily cheap. I have seen it at Aim Surplus and SG ammo but it does not last long. I also now have bullets and dies for that. Eta: the same .303 bullets will work for both as well as 7.62x54R eta part II: Attached File |
