Wasn't much by most standards, but I got in 120 miles in the General CC Andrews State Forest (MN). The vacation was primarily for other family fun, but we were close enough that I could drive the ATVs right to the trails, so I grabbed a few hours here and there.
Trails were red sand and easy, but I did get into some relatively deep water puddles from the storms we had up there. I now have red sand EVERYWHERE on the machines
. Still need to give them a good cleaning to get it all out.
Things were problem free. Never needed the winch or anything like that. I needed 4x4 twice, both times I had stopped and the sand gave me problems getting going. Probably could have fought it out with 2x4, but I just threw the lever. The machine was comfortable to ride, good handling, loved the power steering, and I like the gears instead of a belt drive. My only complaint there was I wish it could be a 4 speed and split 3rd in half, but oh well. Plenty of power for my liking and the suspension soaked up the bumps very well (and MUCH better than the Sportsman).
With our Baofeng (sp?) GMRS radios (yes, I paid the tax man to use them legally, yes they are the actual GMRS legal models), we got about 5 miles of clear communication back to base camp, so long as I wasn't on the back side of a hill. I was very impressed with that.
The MN DNR has geo-enabled maps, which came in SUPER handy as the trails in the state forest aren't marked at all other than what is allowed to run on a particular trail. I used that app a LOT.
I even had the chance to take my oldest (running the Sportsman) and my youngest with me one day
Pics to follow.
