We have only one real German restaurant in San Diego - Kaiserhoff in Ocean Beach. It's mediocre. There used to be a couple of really good ones in La Jolla - The Rheinlander and the Bratskellar, but they're long gone. German food just isn't a thing around here. We have plenty of Mexican and seafood places, and a handful of good Italian restaurants.

Last German restaurant I've been to was Edelweiss in Colorado Springs. Good paprikaschnitzel.

Steinheil 16 and Boettner's if in Munich visiting the folks. But home cooked is always best

Eidelweiss? Or however you spell the little white flower?
I haven't been there. |

There was a place in Anaheim called Jeegerhaus that was amazing, but ever since the original owner passed away it hasn't been the same.

Aside from my in-laws place (they're extremely German), I'd say maybe The Student Prince in Springfield, MA. Or the whole town of Hermann, MO during the month of October.

Hofbrauhaus in Munich.
ETA: if anyone knows of a decent one in the HBG area, please @ me. |

Gerst Bavarian Haus in Evansville, IN. Right next door to Rajo's gun store.
|
|
Zehnders or (across the street) Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth, MI.
Might be biased, though. They are a five minute walk from the house. |

I used to go to Gasthaus Zum Deutscheu Eck in Radcliff, KY a couple of times a week for lunch when I was at FT Knox. Always enjoyed the schnitzel and two sides (usually got double fried potatoes) with a piece of cake.

https://www.hofbrauhauspa.com/ Nice place on Route 30 outside of Gettysburg.
Fredericksburg Tx is full of German restaurants. I like Friedhelm’s Bavarian Inn. At Friedhelm, try the rouladen. |

Henry Wahner's in Kent, OH. The place is a real dive, but the food is excellent. Real German food and huge portions, but it is spendy and they only take cash.

Does Hofbrauhaus in Illinois count?
Damn, just learned it closed after looking it up. |

Maders in Milwaukee. Incredible food and they have real medieval German armor and weapons for decor.

At one time they were pretty good. Anyway, up here? Not a helluva lot of German restaurants. There's Berlin, and they're very meh. And Schwabenhof, which is ok but it's basically a bar with a tiny kitchen that's pretty much just "OK". If I want good German/Bavarian/Bohemian food, I do it myself. |
