We only get detailed to the ambo if there’s a layup, usually after you arrive at work. Definitely a better quality of life on the engine.

We don't run puker wagons. I would never work one. It's nice to put a bls patient in a private ambulance and get on with our day.

We still have single role EMS on our dept, but they’re in the union with us and we all eat, sleep (??) and work together out of the firehouse. If they need us to come with to the hospital, we do it. It’s not always a perfect working relationship but I’d take it over a third party service any day. I get paid way too much to bitch about going on 10-20 min medical runs when the ambo gets it’s shit pushed in every day. We try to take care of our medics (as long as they’re not loads).

Sheesh, 30yrs here of FFPM, running 12/12 days of Engine then Medic. In a 50K run a year city. I’ve been a (paid-extra/promotion) Engine driver over 10 years, but still ride a box every day. That’s because I’m a paramedic. If I was a bls driver, promoted at 6yrs earliest, I would never have ride a box again. So tell me again who’s carrying the weight?
