I've recently come across a couple of dive rite canister lights, without battery packs or chargers. Old halogen h1 head.

If I've got to get battery packs I would like to upgrade them to led. Havent been able to find anything commercially available. Has anyone ever upgraded an old canister light, or did you just buy a new head/light?

Help me hive mind.

Contact DiveRite, they do this sort of thing all the time.

Didn't know they actually did that, I'll give them a shout. Thanks!

Be prepared for them to ask for pictures and a serial number, if there is one, on the equipment. This will help determine what upgrades you need and what will fit 100% in your canister before they receive it from you and find out it's going to be more than you were originally quoted.

That said, they are great people. I started having issues with my older Dive Rite light so I bought a new battery pack, which stopped holding a full charge within six months - they replaced it for free, no questions asked. Then I flooded my entire canister with the brand-new replacement battery at Cow Springs and it still worked after I dried it out for about 12 hours in rice. I ended up selling it to my buddy (who I originally bought the canister from) about two years later and it still works great for him as well.

You'll be happier with new technology LED.  Are you sure it's halogen and not HID?  Huge difference in price for bulb replacement.  DR is a solid company, my only gripe is they discontinue products at a fairly rapid rate and then parts get hard to find.  That and there cave reels are nothing but bird nests waiting to happen :)  All of my wings save for one are DR.

I have a 20 year old unit with the HID light and two of the lead acid batteries. I went to the new LED Divrite a few years back that uses AA batteries Can you get lead acid batteries still? I am going to give the old lite to a dive buddy...
