Looks clean, I’d get a skid plate before hammering the rocks but otherwise looks like it’s pretty set up.

They have come a long way in 20 years. They make a ton of power too.

Made for one.  I'm not into homobiling.

Happens on sled recoveries though for various reasons.  It's a lot more fun to have one person running the brake, the other running the throttle, and you're each on your side of the sled.
At least the crashes are more hilarious.

that was during a course for search and rescue too

Finally "finished" my Trail 90 to the point where I'm happy to share it.

When I bought it:

It's pretty fun.

I bought it non-running, it needed a new coil, battery, condenser, light bulbs, fairings, carb rebuild, non-rotted muffler, and tires.  Rebuilt the top end and replaced a broken transmission gear, and all new gaskets.

I still need to rebuild the front forks and fabricate a fairing hold-down that the only seller of on eBay wants $55 for, since it's a single-year piece.

I'm seriously considering just leaving the paint with the "patina" and covering it in fluid-film.

Just found this corner of arfcom!  Just bought a 2019 RMX450.  Man the new bikes make a lot of power for the weight!

Sad that you gotta de smog the hell out of it to make it usable.

First bike ever with electric start.  Its hell to get old, but at least you can afford better toys.

Overdue wrench day.
Swamp cooler does a damn good job keeping the garage comfortable.

This shit... is da shit. Holds like red, serviceable like blue. And it matches the bikes.

Air filter on the 1190 requires removal of the tank.
Did you know that 6 gallons of fuel won't fit in a 5 gallon jug? Oops.

All back together, runs good, no parts left over. Oil changed and air filter cleaned on both.
I'd much rather wrench on the 525. My sled has less bolts to get everything apart.

@snowmule I agree that sledding is funner! My user name stems from riding sleds, but I don’t currently have one any more. Doesn’t your tank have petcocks on both sides to facilitate the tank removal? My 1290 does.

It does.
But when you try to dump a full tank of fuel into a jug that's not large enough to hold that volume, it doesn't matter how many or how few petcocks it has.
I wasn't about to wrangle that tank full of fuel out of and back into the bike.  Much easier to do when it's empty.

And yeah, snowmobiles always more better.

Put tracks on almost all the runs on that ski area.

I have that exact same helmet and bluetooth unit

Link Posted: 7/21/2020 9:40:25 PM EDT

It's not bad, the pads did take a couple hours to "break in" and my big 'ole elephant ears get flopped down if I slip the helmet on without pulling the pads wide.

It's not the quietest or lightest helmet I've ever had, but it's a decent helmet for the money. The amazon bluetooth deal is good too, I like the FM tuner in it, so in the event I'm outside of cell reception I can still get some info from somewhere... It's not a super sensitive receiver though, so I dunno if it'll prove useful.

Silly Android "portrait" mode makes for some interesting artifacts.

It needs some new tires that are actually road legal, and I need to replace the radiator, put the engine guard on, and replace the throttle cables, but it's not bad for under $1k.

Kind of the scariest way to ride a bike. It’s a blast but it’s counter to everything bike I’ve ever learned. Basically weight the back of the bike. And stay in the gear at a point where you can throttle up and out, because that’s how you stay up. Gonna low side? Add throttle. Washout? Add throttle. G out at the bottom of a dune? Add throttle. It’s physically the most demanding way to dune, but it’s the softest ride because it slices through the ruts.
