Good morning. Our yard is next to a common area including a wetland and it's mowed by a company our neighborhood pays. Well, it appears there is dallisgrass in it and is being spread into our yard. What's the best way to combat this mess and how can I keep it from spreading over from the common area? We're bagging the grass as we mow it and mowing that area last, hoping that minimizes how much we ourselves are spreading it but, in less than two months it's taken over most of our side yard. Our yard is St Augustine and bermuda.

Dallisgrass is hard to manage in St. Augustine and Centipede, unless they've come out with a chemical in recent years. I'd say spot treat with Roundup or dig the stuff up.

Most of the stuff I've been finding is either large scale commercial products for professionals or stuff that is off limits for residential use. So far I've found a combination of Celsius WG and Alligare 90 is supposed to work well. I guess I'll get some ordered and try it.

Sadly the only commercially thing that will kill that type of weed is weed and grass killer or digging them out. Spot spray and put pre-emergent in the spring and summer. It will keep the seeds from germinating and spreading. This is the only way. It will go dormant and come back unless you actually kill it or dig it out (which is hard because any root left behind will grow back).
