Any ideas on how to fab the bow scroll work on dreadnought era ships w/o a 3d printer?

Ive thought about bashing some jewelry pendants but wondered if there was a better way.

More or less 1:72 scale.

Modelers clay/putty - the kind that you can bake to harden.   Or Apoxie sculpt which hardens in about 24 hours

Fine sculpting tools - chisels spatulas picks

And a magnifying headset with lights

I think micro Mark sells almost all that stuff.  The little tools for sure.

My sculpting skills are almost non existent. I can make blobs, and snakes but that's about it.

The scroll works are acanthus leaves.
I doubt you’re going to find anything that matches up in that scale, even from high end doll house furniture.

My experiments have lead me onto the rocky shoals of failure. Headed to Hobby Lobby for some Sculpy.

Stuff like that is exactly why people buy 3D printers.

If you can find files it is no big deal to print.

You are seriously overthinking this.

This is about 15 minutes of goofying around.  You would have to trim around the scroll and it would be a whole lot better if someone cleaned up the pic.  But you get what you pay for.    This is a screenshot of a ready to print STL file.Attachment Attached File

I saw this on another group. Thought you might the description that went along with this photo that you posted up above.

#OTD in 1908, over one million people came out to watch USS Connecticut lead the Great White Fleet into San Francisco Bay. The fleet was completing the first leg of a global goodwill tour to demonstrate U.S. naval power. The beautiful white ships with gilded scrollwork caused a sensation wherever they went. When the fleet arrived in Sydney 3 months later, it was estimated that over 500,000 of the city's 600,000 residents greeted the ships.

Can't help you with the printing but here's a good color picture of the USS Maine's bow scroll (located at the USS Maine memorial in Bangor ME.)

If you got someone local I can find a place to post the STL files, otherwise I can print them and send.  I need to know the size and you will have to give me a few days.

It isn't perfect, but beats what you have now.
