Anybody have experience with this?  I'm thinking about trying it based on what I've read about copper and its germ killing properties.  I'm not sure how safe it is though, but it would be damn nice not to deal with the misery of a common cold any longer.

Never deal with the common cold again

Yeah, shoving a copper rod up your nose is a panacea.

Can I also interest you in some colloidal silver and a copper bracelet?

Probably a scam, there isn't much you can do about the cold virus. If you are regularly exposed to it, a few are going to get in there and take hold eventually.

Edit: Can't you develop some pretty nasty sensitivity to copper if you are in contact with it frequently?

If it worked, your grandmother would have shoved one up your nose when you were 5.

If you want to try it, just get some pure copper tubing and fashion one for yourself.   Or stick old pennies up your nose.

It’s not rocket science.

1. Wash your hands with soap and water every time you are in a bathroom, after handling money, or after being in public.

2. Use sinus rinse daily (netty pot or one of the spray ones).

3. Avoid spending money on copper rod.

Ok, I figured that is what I'd get from responses.  I guess I was just holding out hope.  Modern science/medicine needs to come up with a cure for the common cold.

Sleep, proper nutrient levels, and hand sanitizer does a decent job for most people.

Catching a cold 1-2 times  year is a good thing, it keeps your software up to date.

I'm about 80% convinced that the zinc tablets work if taken during the early stages of a cold.  I've been using them for the past 3-4 years and only had 1 cold and it was very mild, lasting only a day or two.

I asked my doctor about it as a remedy and he told me "Maybe".  So I guess the jury is still out to some degree.

The key seems to be to use it when you first think you might be getting a cold, then for a day or so afterwards also.  I've been on cruise ships where it was running rampant, and managed to avoid getting it myself, so I'll keep using it until proven otherwise.  The Wally World brand is only $6 or so as I recall, and good for a few seasons.

I have a very bad arthritic left thumb.  I was interested in all of this copper shit, so I took some heavy wiring I bought for running a 220V line, stripped it and made a ghetto bracelet.  (It actually looked pretty good )  I wore it for a month, no difference other than my skin turning green and black.

Agree with taking zinc. Works for me. Just make sure you eat something first, if I don't it tears my stomach up.

No, the brand name is: ZiCam.  Walmart has a version that is about 1/3rd the cost with the same ingredient label.

Copper kills germs but it must be clean, that's why copper door handles are of very limited utility: as soon as skin oils coats them the effectiveness drops.

Also, even if you completely disinfected every pathogen from your nose, you still have it all inside your body.
