I thought South Carolina was a free state.

The City of Columbia passed an ordinance Tuesday that bans the use of bump stocks and trigger cranks.

Columbia's ordinance makes it illegal to attach bump stocks or trigger cranks to any guns within the city, except by military or law enforcement personnel. It would still be legal to own those devices, so long as they are stored in separate containers from firearms.

It would apply only in the city limits of Columbia. I'm going out on a limb here but it's probably illegal to discharge a firearm in the city limits.

Oh, and the mayor said no one should be able to use a $30 bump fire stock in Columbia. Someone having a sale?

Only law enforcement and the military need bump stocks and crank triggers to spray into a country music concert!

They know. He is actually violating a court order from last year that permanently enjoined the city from enacting any gun ordinances after violating the law the last time. They are saying it is not a firearm part according to the federal government, to get around preemption, despite the ATF 2010 letter saying it is a firearm part.

If the state has a preemption law like Texas, then they have violated state law with that ordinance that only applies in the city limits of Columbia as you irrelevantly noted when you sawed off that limb that you went out onto. I'd be surprised if their city council hasn't received a notice of action from the state Attorney General's Office regarding this city ordinance.

City of Columbia is a cesspool of liberal democrats that have run this place into the ground.  Think Detroit many years ago. That's where they are now. Columbia PD spends more time patrolling the land grabs while down town burns with gangs and traffic that resembles the bumper cars at the State Fair.  Of course T-bone Mayor himself set this precedent the night of his election when he was drunk had been and killed another motorist and he walked away a free man.

This is all actually in the ordinance.

WHEREAS, in 2010 the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
declared a “bump stock” is a firearm part and is not regulated as a firearm under the U.S. Gun
Control Act or the National Firearms Act; and,

WHEREAS, “bump stocks” and “trigger cranks” and similar devices are not firearms or firearm
components, but rather separately purchased optional devices with the purpose and design of
dramatically increasing the firing rate of an otherwise legal weapon to a firing speed and capability of
unlawful weapons; and,

WHEREAS, South Carolina Code of Laws Section 23-31-510 prohibits a municipality from
enacting any regulation or ordinance that regulates "firearms, ammunition, components or firearms
or any combination of these things", "bump stocks" and "trigger cranks" as defined herein do not fall
under this category based upon the definitions of such under applicable Federal Law; and,

When I in-processed at Fort Jackson we were given a brief about the area.  A black full bird came in to talk about the local racism.  Me being a yankee, I thought "well, this is the birthplace of the Civil War."

He then stated "White people, it's directed at you."

After that my sponsor took me to Fatz cafe just outside the main gate.  Sure as shit the black hostess literally looked past us and seated the black couple that came in after us.

I didn't get triggered and didn't give a shit, I thought it was funny given the briefing I just had.
